I heard from a nurse that cleaning our ears with dried cotton buds can damage some parts in our ears more over leaving small parts of the cotton inside. He said it would be best to clean our ears with wet cotton buds preferably with oil. A cousn of mine was having difficulty hearing, she went to the EENT (Ears,Eyes,Nose,Throat doctor) and the doctor was able to bring out from her ears a ball of cotton bud left overs. He said that in cleaning our ears with cotton buds we are pushing the dirty further inside. So please use wet cotton buds also with precautions. There are some drugstores that have a proper tool for cleaning the ears, maybe you can check them out too (it looks like a tiny spoon). I know its disgusting to discuss this but i just want to share it with you. Thanks

Thanks for this very vital information... and to think of the fact that most people aren't aware of this and may never be. This other tool you talked about, do you know tha name?

When my 14year old daughter was 3, we used to have a babysitter who took care of her while I went to work everyday. One afternoon, I arrived home and my baby was really hot with a fever and cried everytime I moved her head a little. I asked the babysitter what went wrong and she told me that she was cleaning the baby's ear with a cotton bud and the cotton was left inside the ear! I panicked and brought my baby to the hospital right away. It took 6 nurses and a doctor to take the cotton out of the ear because the baby was in pain and kicked and pushed everyone as hard as she could before they could take the cotton out. After that, the doctor advised me to put a drop of oil into the ear to soften the dirt, and to use a wet cotton bud to clean it. Unfortunately, since that day, my daughter would never let anyone touch her ear ever again.
