Well, those of you who caught one of my last posts already know that we recently had the carnival come to town. Thankfully, I have great friends who run with WCA and I was able to get my children's bracelete's for 1/2 price. My daughter is 8 but a very tiny 8. She was so thrilled that she was finally big enough to go on most of the rides. The one that she was most looking forward to was the ferris wheel. As soon as we got to the fairgrounds, she went running up to stand against the sign to see if she was big enough to go on it this year. The look of pure joy on her face when she found out she was was incredible. Her smile almost split her face. As soon as they had their bracelete's she was dragging her brother into the line up and getting all ready to go on. She was fine for the first bit across the bottom but when they started going up, she got really really nervous. I could hear her from the ground where I was standing. She started almost crying and was leaning up against her brother and hiding her face against his shoulder. In the back of my mine, I was worried that he might start rocking the seat or doing something else to make it even worse for her. They seem to always be fighting and picking on each other. But he was wonderful. Absolutely fabulous. Instead of hassleing her, he put his arm around her and did his best to reassure her. They ended up sitting at the top of the ride for a bit while the carnie was letting other people off and putting new people on. I could hear my daughter and she sounded so upset. I told the carnie that when they got down to the bottom I wanted him to let my girl off even though they had only gone around once and he was okay with that. To my surprise, when they got down to the bottom, she didn't want to get off. My son kept his arm around her the whole time and she ended up going around a couple times... finally even getting brave enough to lift her head from his shoulder and check out the site from the top of the wheel. As soon as they were let off of the ride, the two of them together went running to the back of the line to do it again. By the time we left the back, she'd gone on the ferris wheel 5 times, 4 with her brother and once with another friend on his first ferris wheel ride and she got to be the reassuring one. It completely amazed me that my son treated her with such care. I'm so used to seeing them butt heads constantly. It was great to see the love between them. I am so proud of my boy and the way he protected his little sister.
