Do you consider yourself a good host at a party?

We just had a celebration yesterday and since i still live at my parents house, my mom is considered the host though it really is my party and for my baby. I don't like her visitors at all and i would have wanted my own visitors to be accomodated first not her visitors. Now im not being rude but then i don't like the outcome of the party, i ended up spending too much to people i don't like and i don't know..i would have wanted my friends to come to the house but then there is no food left for them. I would have wanted to host the party but mother gets in the way always. I have never tried hosting my own party and i would have wanted it in small party where friends can talk and mingle. Are you a good host? and how do we become a good host?

Your discussion reminded me of my brother's birthday party last June... my father decided to have a celebration... prepared the food... bought lots of drinks... but invited only his friends... and told them it was my brother's birthday... My brother did not mind even if he did not really want a party... but since he did not spend a single centavo on it... he just ate a lot... his girlfriend was there... and we had a good laugh about the whole situation... But in your case... unless you get a place of your own... and use only your money for the celebration... that is the only time you will be able to host your very own party... as for now... i don't think there is anything you can do...

this has always been the case for all the celebrations at home...and the more i despised celebrating or having a party for my own kids because i still could not invite my own friends because by the time they arrive many friends of my mothers(usually her majong mates!)will be our guests...so i decided not to hold any party anymore.
