if a child is crying really hard and won't stop unless you give him candy, will you give it to him?

NOPE!!!!!!! My daughter used to do that when she was 1 1/2 yrs. old cause her grandparents would give candy to her whenever she asked for it. One time I was in the store with her and she asked for candy. Told her no and she started throwing a major tantrum, throwing herself around in the cart and screaming. I calmly took her out of the store WITHOUT the candy, strapped her in her carseat and off we went home. Left her with daddy and went back to the store to pay for the groceries in peace. She did that 2 other times until she learned don't mess with mommy cause you get just the opposite of what you want. She now knows not to even ask for anything at all while at the store. Instead she will ask for something in the car and we will work it out there till we come to an agreement on what she will be allowed to have once we get in the store. My daughter WILL NOT be raised to be a spoiled brat.

Caroline being silly showing off her 1st green bea - Caroline and I were going thru the gardens after several days of rain to see how the veges were doing and I spotted this green bean on her vine. She was all excited about it so I took her pic with it. Not very big but being the vine is only a foot tall, it's a start.
Thank you, maemaemae, for the BR. My daughter is now 9yrs old and she will tell ppl outright that call her a spoiled brat that she isn't. lol I've witnessed alot of out-of-control kids in the stores before I was even pregnant and made a vow to myself that if I was to ever have kids, they would not be spoiled rotten and I've kept that vow.

No. When my kids throw tantrums over stuff like that I leave the room. As soon as I'm out of sight, the crying stops.
