I remember when i was a little girl,I used to get the biggest thrill of going to "open houses" at McGuire AFB.I was devastated when the military stopped them after 9/11 but agree with them, but I am worried about the decision to start up open houses or air shows with terrorism such a big threat. It's so easy for a terrorists to slip in unnoticed.that really worrries me and i was wondering what you think about it.

Years ago, I would say it was okay to have open houses but now I think the dangers are too great to allow anyone to come and visit. There is too much terrorism going on all around the world, the most recent threat being Fort Dix in New Jersey. If they do have an open house, they will need to have all sorts of security measures. It is amazing how times have changed and how much dangerous it is to have open houses or anything else.

I really enjoyed going to them but having our troops trying to keep their eye on thousands of people is asking too much, especially with them already on the look out for terrorists as it is. There is no way they can keep an eye on every single person.I remember the last year we were in Jersey,McGuire had a open house air show and the troops were worried about the extra burden of all the people.

I didn't know they ever had open houses. What sort of things did they do? I see you have a photo of an air show, was that the sort of thing tha happened at open houses, or was it parades or medals ceremonies?

Usually our military bases are closed to the public but usually once a year they have what they call "open houses" where they allow the public in to certain areas only and they usually have different events which differ according the military branch.Sometimes they may have air shows. sometimes they will show certain military equipment or they will demonstrate different tactics, etc.I love going to military open houses but I don't know if they should with all the terrorism, there are thousands that attend and not everyone can be watched.

no I don;t think they should... I live on Camp Pendleton and feel very safe... Now a days you can't trust anyone.. just look what they foiled this past week at the army base.. they have made it harder even to get onto base. you have to show proof of insurance, current registration, and id.. I had problems th one day when I had to get my windshield replaced and my dod sticker got torn. and I even have a military ID

I jsut get real worried. They did foil ft.Dix but only because a clerk came forward. I know it's harder to come in through check points but I worry about them sneaking in other ways. I have always felt safe when i entered Ft.Dix and McGuire. It's only at the open houses i feel a little nervous.

I know. I was so proud of that clerk! When I think what could of happened! I love going to them but really wish they wouldn't do it. No matter how safe a base can be,they can find a way in. don't think i don't take advantage of that though. I get a chance to stare at all those guys in uniforms,im a takin it! lol
