I have a lovely, state of the art computer desk and there is a little tray for all my pens and pencils, which I thought was great as a)it stops Other Half and the birdies removing them to locations all over the flat and b) they can not roll off onto the floor behind the desk.
Trouble is there is literally NO room between this tray and the shelf where the keyboard sits, and I have just found that out! When you stop laughing, suggestions as to how I can prevent further finger tip damage please!

I know that as a superhero you probably do not know your own strength but you have to realise that most household items are made for us weaker human types who are gentler.
Maybe you should glue or get the other half to screw a nicely rounded block of wood onto both sides of the sliding bit to stop it going back too far and catching those poor little fingers.

hmmmmm, as with Bilbo Baggin's relatives on the night of THAT party, I am trying to work out whether I have been insulted or not lolololol
Hmmmm, key, key, now where did I put the thing . . .

I have more chance of fixing the block of wood myself than getting any assistance round here this weekend!
As to the super bit, shhhh! Trade secrets, etc!
lolololol

No, Blondie, as you know I am so clumsy I would spend half my life picking up the contents of the pen holder, and also Other Half steals my pens and scatters them throughout the flat, so I need to keep them hidden.
When you visit you will see that I can not move anything. It is a metal, purpose built computer table!

Have you never heard the phrase "beggars can't be choosers?" The wretched table is in here and it was such a performance getting it in here there is no chance of moving it!
However, actually if you remember how the other keyboard used to rock and reel while you were trying to type I think you will very much enjoy using this desk, just be careful when I ask you to pass a pencil lololol.

There is no alternative but I have shut my fingers in the drawer enough times to make sure my brain stops me doing it now lol.

I am getting more comfortable here now Marlyse. They have literally slung everything that they do not want in the lounge into the bedroom but have notput any shelves up and have just abandoned me.
However, I can type about three times as fast now a I have a proper shelf with the keyboard on and I am getting more comfortable - not to mention careful with that wretched drawer - every day lol.
Yes, it is very difficult to keep pens and I shall try your idea, as I put all the pens into one place and they end up all over the flat. Even the birdies join in, swooping and snatching a pen. I don't get the pen back until it is chewed way, way beyond ever being useful again lol.

Thank you for that, I shall get Other Half to see if he can alter things. The desk is metal and the actual shelf the keyboard is on is so much more solid than the previous desk. When I got up to speed typing the keyboard bounced worse than Jell-o!
As to pens from bank THANK YOU! Believe it or not hadn't thought of that, but it is now etched onto my brain.

That's a pretty serious situation as I may say....shelagh77 !!! (I'm stop giggling now). What about find another room....bigger and better....that way you can keep all of them and won't worry about further finger tip damage....(smart, aye ?!?!)

Nope, there is nowhere else, unless I set up office in a tent in the garden, and no, I am not going to do that, someone else will have to camp out if they want another inch of my room lol.
It was a real shock when my fingers got caught, but I am being much more wary now.
I will just have to hurry up and write my novel, become rich and move to a home with lots of rooms - and locks on the doors to keep out the marauding pen snatchers lolol.

Hi Shelagh, Well it does sound great to have a place for your pens and pencils, but can you move it to some other appropriate place so that you do not get hurt from it. I know what you mean about your other half and the birdies taking your them away I found that with my pens and pencils I have a little basket that I put on top of my cd rom so that I can find mine.

Nope, no can do, they steal from anywhere I have them, and a little basket is like a beacon light to the birdies. Ooooh basketware, oooh crunchy yummy.
I shall just have to get used to the stupid layout of the drawers, as the unit itself is actually quite nice. I did not realise before how much the keyboard shelf shook, and this one is rock solid, making typing so much nicer.

Mmm, I can't totally visualize the problem but I once had an evil desk as well where they keyboard would roll back sometimes and my fingers would get slammed in between. Placed a rubber edge on that so it wouldn't hurt anymore, later replaced the desk for something on which the keyboard could have a more static place though.

Well, this desk is more than evil, it has been sworn at more than any other desk I have ever had! It is very good in that it doesn't wobble like my previous desk and the whole thing is better as it has a sliding tray for the keyboard, which actually slides and works, on my previous desk if I pulled the tray the whole thing came out and the keyboard ended up crashing to the floor.
I was delighted to find somewhere to put my pens etc but I am less than thrilled at the ease with which I can trap my fingers, sigh.
