| Beagles, I need some advice! | | | | Since, I am thinking of getting myself a Beagle, I thought that I could get some advice or some tips on keeping my dog healty and happy. I live in an apartment so I am not looking for a big dog, the beagle best suits me and my tastes. I've heard that if you have only one Beagle it gets lonely since it is a hunting dog and it is used to be with more of its kind. Is this true? So, please some advice would be useful:) | | Beagle | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

| | Choice of type or breed of dog when one decides that a dog is the pet for them should have many factors considered. Personality fit, space for the dog, shedding...researching the breed you chose is always a good idea, talking with breeders and people who have the breed you are considering is also an excellent idea. Beagles are a working class dog, they are usually worked in packs...All dogs are pack animals, and need social interaction on a fairly consistent basis. Beagles are burrowers...they were bred to dig into burrows after prey, they are chasers, running prey to 'ground'. They are generally a very active dog, and inquisitive, meaning they do like to get into stuff you'd rather they didn't. Most breeds are nappers, meaning they sleep short periods throughout the day and night. Some breds are howlers, meaning they will cry loudly or bark at any noise or just to hear themselves. As for your potential dog getting lonely, there are options such as leaving a radio or television on for the company of the noise they provide. It all depends on how many hours this animal will be alone either in the house or the kennel. Beagles like company, your company or another animal's. Rather than worrying about your potential pet being lonely, investigate enrichement themes for him/her. With a beagle I hope you are prepared for long walks, lots of 'investigation' and some beagle behaviors. Google the breed and start looking through the sites, AKC has several sites with good info, as do the various breeders, some owners will also have sites with information and even give the reader oppportunities to ask questions. | | | | | | | Adamdog (192)
