1. maddysmommy (10990) | 3 years ago | I value them and try to hold onto them as well. Some things I have been given by our neighbour (second hand stuff) which I have no need for them and have told her, but she wants me to take them off her anyways - its ok at times but then again I tend to start storing all the things she no longer needs and i feel if i get rid of them, when she visits shes going to ask where they are!! I have told her that my apartment is getting full and that I don't need anymore items (in a nice way!)

2. derek_a (5154) | 3 years ago | I have always tended to feel that people are more important than things, but when somebody gives me that special gift, I can sort of feel their presence in the gift and don't like to lose it or get rid of it.
When my father died 20 years ago, he left me his car and like all cars, it wore out and needed to be replaced a fews years later. Not wanting to change it, I hung on to it far longer than I needed to, but then one day, I just to had trade it in for a new one. I was sad, but then I realised that my father would have told me to get rid of it far sooner than I did and I could almost hear him telling me off for being so silly.. I was OK then.

add_im (1163) | 3 years ago | Yes, it's never been easy getting rid of all things which means a lot to you and it's very valuable which given to you by a loved one. Sometimes really we tend to just do things what we wanted but then later times, we came to realize how wrong we was and just by realizing things that at first we shouldn't been doing. Thanks for your respond.

4. favorgrays (1647) | 3 years ago | My mom gave me my great grandmothers' watch. It still works. It has a ribbon band and can be worn as a brooch or on the wrist. It's in excellent shape, since my mother took care of it. She had it cleaned and tuned. It's a wind up watch, so you know it's old. The name on it is called "Cyma." It's not worth a fortune, but considered an antique. I found some of the same watches on ebay and they sell them between $20 up to over $1,0000.00. I would never sell my heirloom, only because I am passing it on, to my neice when she gets older.

add_im (1163) | 3 years ago | Thanks for sharing favorgrays. That is really indeed a good attitude of you, that even how old is the given gift watch by your mom that your grandma is passing on to her...it's really such a big impact knowing that you're still going to keep it and soon will pass on to your niece whenever she gets old enough. That's a wonderful thing with you.

5. gberlin (3167) | 3 years ago | I value things that my kids have made for me. My kids have also given some things I value. When I graduated with my masters degree my kids gave me a stuffed bear wearing shorts. On the shorts it said "smarty pants". That I will keep forever!
