I've noticed that different diapers fit differently based on the brand. Some run a little bigger then others. Personally, I've never went by the weight guidelines. I just see if the diaper looks like it's comfy on my son. If he leaks more then normal then that's a good sign that I should up his diaper size. He's currently 25lbs in a size 5. I'm sure I will be moving him to a size 6 soon because he's a chubb. lol

Wow! A two year old in a size 3? She must be a tiny little thing. It really varies for each baby. Some are smaller then others.

yeah mine is working on getting there. I am asking because he is 3 mo and in a size 2. my 2 year old niece just moved to a size 3. I was starting to wonder if i was putting the poor little thing in the wrong diaper size or at least moving him to fast!!

We knew it was time to go up a size when my daughter was leaking out of the side of her Pampers. However, we tried Huggies in the same size and had to go back down a size. It really depends on the child and the brand of diapers that you use. SHortly after that we started to cloth diaper which is a bit more flexible in sizing.

I also would go by the leaking factor. Once they start leaking out of the diaper, I would move up a size.

This isn't anything you haven't heard already but I'll tell you what I do anyway. With all I've mine I've gone by how they fit and how much they held before needing to be changed. If the diaper looked tight I went up a size, if it had too many gaps around the belly or legs I went down a size, if it had to be changed more frequently to prevent leaks I went up a size. I don't even remember the weight range for the sizes we're using now or if my children even fall within those guidelines. My 4 year old wears 2T/3T training pants, my 2 year old is in size 6 diapers. My 4 year old is skinny-33 pounds- and size 6 diapers are too big for him. My 2 year old is chunky (but thinning out lately), at 29 pounds the 2T/3T pull ups are too small. The littlest one just turned 6 months and is still in size 2. When he was born even the Newborn size was too big for him. I had to get a brand with the sticky tape instead of the velcro like kind because the tabs completely overlapped. I would have gotten the preemie size but couldn't find any until after the newborns started to fit finally. The weight guidelines definitely don't seem to fit in the smaller sizes. Preemie is only supposed to go up to 6 pounds but he was over 7 at birth and didn't fit into newborn's until he was a month old.

every brand of diapers is different, the weight is just an average on the diaper size. It will leak if its too big or too small, you will know when your baby is ready to move into the next size.
I have 2 little girls ages 14 months and one almost 3, my 2 year old is not yet potty trained completely and will wear diapers. To save money because we all know how expensive diapers are my 2 daughters wear the same size and it actually fits both babies. I believe it says 21-34 pounds on the box. My older baby has a small waist so it still fits her good, my little one can also wear this size.
i know it would be better if my 2 year old were out of diapers but that is another topic, lol
trust your mommy instinct though, you will know :)

When his butt gets too big and you can't tape the strips together anymore.

I dont go by the weight either. I but what fits best. If they feel like its getting harder to close them then move up a size. It wont hurt if there a little big.

I go by if the diaper is leaking and how it fits. The weight isn't always true to the fit. Speaking of weight I have to share. A friends husband was watching his son for the first time while my friend went out to the store. She came home and asked if he changed the baby's diaper he said no the box says it holds up to 20lbs rofl I couldn't stop laughing.

I use teh weights as a guide, but I look at how tight they are on her. usually when they start leaving lines from being so tight it is time to move up.
