is ethics and morality getting more and more subjective and relaxed?

i find, strangely ethics is getting relative nowadays and it is governed by the individual's values and instincts. other important factors being the circumstance, the occasion and the place. what had been considered bad until very recently is getting open for judgement. ethics, if not losing purpose, but certainly getting stretched.
thank you.

I think that this may have to do with people moving around much more than before. We used to belong to the same groups and cultures and neighbourhoods all our lives. Then we shared values and morals. Now when we move about freely we mix our values with other cultures values. I do not mean to say that other cultures have less valid values, but that by seeing that there are other ways of seeing one thing we loose faith in some of our values. All become relative and open to discussions. I think this may lead people that are already on the side of the mainstream society to form their own cultures that places much less value on things that were previously viewed as important traits of a person.

i really appreciate your views and kind of agree to it. interchange and intermingling of culture and values has to contribute towards this a lot.
thanx.
PS: you deserve the best response in every sense.

Well, part of the problem with the modern 'rights' based system of ethics, apart from it being incoherent, is that it is entirely negative, it fosters no virtue in people concentrating only on preventing wrongs against them.
Secondly, there is a confusion between cultural and ethical relativism. Even then, not all cultures are equal. That is not a racist view, it is perfectly consistent to hold that all races are equal while accepting the reality that all cultures are not.
Thus without either strong normative principles or understand of ethical considerations it is not surprising that people get confused
all the best urban
