More than just a Happy Meal... |
|
This morning as I was driving my son to school, listening to the radio, the deejays were talking about a father in Illinois had taken his 3 children to McDonald's for Happy Meals. 2 of the 3 children got the normal toy in their Happy Meal box., his daughter found a cigarette lighter, a pipe and a bag of pot. A 17 year old faces charges of drug possession plus a few other charges. He said he was using the box to hide his stash while he was at work. I don't know how old the girl is but if she got a Happy Meal I am sure she is young. How do you explain what it is and why it is in the Happy Meal to a child? Doesn't say much about McDonald's hiring practices, does it? I thought business had to do drug testing now-a-days... guess not.

2. TriciaW (1839) | 1 year ago | Depending on the age of the child I would tell them it was a bad thing and that they would be getting free happy meals for a while now. That the bad person that put it in there is in big trouble. As for drug testing it is a sticky situation for companys. I know I suspected one of my employees of using drugs and in order for us to do drug testing we had to do all employees which is very costly. Needless to say when it came time to do it I told him he and I both had to be tested and I was driving. He quit before we went. It is too bad we have such problems with drugs in the work place and it is awful that a child was subjected to it. I wish there was a solution for all of this.

3. lightningMD (5537) | 1 year ago | i belive they dodrug test before hiring. If you stayed clean before the test then you'd pass no problem. Then unless you were pulled for random testing they would never know. Thank goodness the kid is being prosecuted. I hope McDonalds gave that guy alot of free food coupons to use in the future. I'd just tell my child That the store made a mistake and that someone who worked there had put his bad stuff into a box without telling anyone else, but that it is all taken care of now,and that it wont be happening again.

4. alilswt (258) | 1 year ago | wow that is a surprise it would depend on the child's age how i would explain it basically saying that that is bad stuff that can hurt you and there was a person that was not very good that left it in there and it was accidentally given to them and explain never to touch anything that looks like that stuff

dragonokiefly (537) | 1 year ago | I agree! I have to wonder is why the person who put the food in the box didn't catch this. I would think that the box itself would have been heavy before any food was put in it if it contained a lighter and a pipe.

6. Woodpigeon (2594) | 1 year ago | Do they have to do drug tests to get hired at McDonald's? I had no idea that had become the case. I think a child ordering a Happy Meal would be too young to understand really hwat it was. I would just take it off the litle one and then take it from there. Just saying it was drugs or something they weren't allowed to have would probably be enough for a 5 or younger child.

7. loved1 (4237) | 1 year ago | Holy cow! That is awful. How many of us just hand the happy meal to our child in the back seat without another thought? I will be sure to look in the sack first from now on. That is unbelieveable. I would be surprised if that person did not get a child endangerment charge slapped on him. For pete's sake, if you are going to do something so stupid, at least hide it some place where it might not be placed in the hands of a child! He must have smoked some before starting his shift, lol.

9. raydene (4820) | 1 year ago | The thing about pot is that it crosses alot of lines that other drugs don't.I know teachers that smoke because I can smell it when I'm near them and I used to smoke in the 70's and it's a smell you can recognize. This 17 year old might look like the the most upstanding young man and may be except he smokes.I think that pot is less harmful then alcohol and not as addictive. Until places like Mickey Ds does drug test this may happen.I think the person was kind of stupid to hide it there..They must have a break room or something. I know I sound like I'm making light of it but when you think of murders and baby rapist getting away with it and living amoung us it doesn't compare. It is a sad state of affairs. Just to make one thing clear.I do not smoke pot or use illegal drugs and seldom drink.I'm a Mom and Gran and always abide by the law.I have just seen too much lack of justice and feel this is small in comparison.

10. AnnaB87 (466) | 1 year ago | That is awful, I think this is a good reason to check your childs meal before handing it to them. As for hiring practices anyone can be tricked or fooled into believing that someone else is okay. Or maybe they were okay when hired but started drugs afterwards. I am guessing that this person is probably in a lot of trouble and fired.
