Question about our new kittens |
| |
| Okay, we got two kittens from some people and brought them home. They are covered with fleas. We have gave them 3 flea baths today and they still have them. I really don't want to do anymore on them today since their skin is getting a little pink from the flea shampoo(I am guessing). Is there some other way to get rid of their fleas? And if so, how? | | | | | |

| | it will be good to try using detergents and dishwashing liquids for the purpose. i had tried this too before. it is effective though it had to be done at least twice a week. the population of the fleas will slowly dwindle. | | | |

| | Each bath they have been fewer and fewer of them. We have never had to deal with this before so I thought that one bath would do it but I guess not. I think that I will try the dishsoap idea tomorrow. | | | |

| | Try flea collars, if they're not too young for them. That might help. You also may be able to remove the fleas by hand, but I'm not sure. Hope you can get rid of them, as it's not a very comfortable thing for cats or kittens to have. | | | | | | |

| | I'm not sure, but if you look at a flea collar in a store I'm sure it will tell you. We've used flea sprays for our cats, but they don't have many fleas to deal with. | | | |

| | when this happens to any of my pets, i bring it to the veterinarian. they now have some injectables. once the pet is given a sufficient dosage, all the parasites are rendered dead within sometime. since all parasites are dealt with, the health of the pet will be greatly improved and it becomes evident after a few days. | | | | | | |

| | How old are the kittens? I would not go with a flea collar. I had a very bad experience with my cat, with the flea collar. The dish lotion is a good idea. Our local Humane Society told me about that. There are many things on the market to help our furry friends these days. Ask your vet to recommend a good safe product. | | | | | | |

| | I'd check with the vet because it depends on how old they are. We use front line on our cats, which is the stuff you apply to their skin and it gets rid of fleas if they have them and prevents them for 30 days and then you have to apply it again and it's good for another 30 days. But I think they have to be a certain age before it's safe to use it. Anyway, I would check with the vet about it. Kelly | | | | | | |

| | Ortho Sevin Dust (for the garden) works really well. I have used it on 2 week old kittens. You just have to be careful about the powder getting around their mouths and noses. Just put a little in your palm and rub it all over them. And put some under the bedding that the kittens are laying on (even just putting it in their bedding helps a lot). I have asked my veterinarian about using it and HE even agreed with me as to how well it works. But if you don't want to use that, there is a spray carried at most veterinary offices that you can purchase...it can be used on kittens as young as two weeks. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of it off the top of my head. But I'm sure if you ask they can figure out which one it is. | | | | | | |

| | Take them to the vet and get Advantage- Or if they are too young the vet will know what to do or what to give them. Poor little kitties- Usually you have to give the advantage once a month- It is a bit pricey but so worth it for the kitties- I wouldn’t do anymore flea baths right now till you take them to the vet. They probably need shots anyways- Good luck! | | | | | | |

| | I had a kitten like that... I put some water in the tub at a temp. the kittens could stand and put them in it. They were too small to climb out. They hated being in there - but the fleas ended up off the cat in the water. I used a little bit of dish det. and very gently washed their heads (the last dry place the fleas could get too). It took a little while, but the fleas eventually all ended up in the water and the kittens were flea free. | | | | | | |
