I just read an article in the paper about a fox in a small town about 15 miles from here where a fox attacked a lady. Her husband went to help and it bit the husband. The firemen were called in and it bit the fireman and when he dropped his helmet, it went after that. They finally had to shoot the animal.
I started a discussion a couple of weeks ago regarding a fox that has been in our yard. I called the animal control and they said that it would not hurt my kids or my dog. Now after I read this article, I am very nervous about letting my kids go outside! I realize that this fox that was shot must have had rabies, and it was also a gray fox and ours is a red tale fox. What would you do? My husband thinks I am nuts to worry about it. I thought we should call animal control again.

i agree with you that this is an alarming incident. it could be that these foxes have become threatened in their natural habitat and so they are now trying to fight back. you know about the instinct about self preservation being so strong in animals. since your cause for worry is legitimate, call for animal control again. this time, you have sufficient reason to demand for their appropriate action.

I am going to call again. My husband thinks I am over reacting, but it is much better to be safe.
