Ok, so I am looking into homeschooling for a couple of reasons, I will not be happy, and will worry too much if my kid goes to the public shcools around here, private and private christian schools are way too expensive, and paying to go to another district is as well, I was wondering, how much it costs for a private tutor in Virginia, and some homeschooling seminars in Va, that I could attend to try and make up my mind. If you know of anywhere I could get that info, it would be very much appreciated, or if you have knowledge or experience in this that would also help! Thank you!

I homeschool my daughter in Virginia.I do not use a tutor.I got a curriculum. The teachers books help. But,if there are subjects Iam not good in.I ask friends, family members to help or on a local study group or teenage tutor(cheaper).Send an email to sharenett@att.net and ask to receive the free e newsletter to find these. Some public libraries have some stuff too.Go to www.hslda.org and find out the various options you have.Go to "Homeschool" on the drop down menu,"Homeschool Laws".Go to www.msngroups.com/HomeschoolLinks to find some curriculums, books and more that could help too.

I am not sure about VA and the schooling there, but you might try searching for Virtual Schools in your area. I am going through one in KS this coming year for my 13 yr old. We go to an orientation in Aug. to get all the books and a laptop and then all work is done online. We are assigned a teacher in case we need help which would be by email or phone. I have never homeschooled before, but I have to try it this coming year until we can get his behavior under control. Good Luck! ;)

I don't homeschool but have often thought about it. I know people that do and their children seem so much better off than public schooled children. I did a quick search using "homeschooling" and "Virginia" as keywords. This popped up and looked like it might be helpful... http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/regional/Virginia.htm It appears to be a resource site for whatever you need to know about homeschooling in Va. Hope it helps some and good luck with your decision!

i too am going to be homeschooling my 10 yr old next year. she is going to public school right now. we are going to be doing something called a cyber charter school. you should check that out in your state. i dont have to teach her. she has to log onto the computer at a specific time each day and she has an actual live teacher and students in her class. then there is help whenever you need it. the school district supplies you with a laptop, printer, books, supplies, and everything you will need. they even pay for your internet service each month. it is all totally free. it sounds like such a great, safe way to learn at your own pace. we are looking forward to it in sept. good luck to you!!
