Watercolor artists: wet or dry medium?  email this discussion to a friend?

When you're working on your watercolor paintings, do you prefer working with wet watercolors from a tube, with dried cakes of color or with watercolor pencils? Why? Have you ever created a piece with more than one type of watercolor medium?

Here's my answers:

I prefer working with watercolor pencils because I like controlling how wet the medium is. In some cases, I've started out with watercolor washes using diluted paint from tubes, then I've gone back and added specific details using watercolor pencils.

Well I haven't done any water color in years!! But when I did, I like to use the cake method. Yes i have seen the water color pencil, but never tried it. I like using markers to do my art work. Less mess and quicker. When coming up with a design, I use graph paper it just helps me keep things in perspective. My other half calls me a plotting artist. I like to think of myself as a geometric artist because I use alot of geometry in my art. My favorite artist is M.C.Escher.

M.C. Escher is my favorite artist, too! I've created some sort of abstract explorations using his styles in the past and, come to think of it, measuring and keeping thing symmetrical would've made the works come out so much better. ::blushes:: I have a ton graph paper from a math course I'm taking now, so I'll have plenty to use for this later! Yay! Have you read Visions of Symmetry?

I enjoy using tube paint. I don't care much for the dried cakes. I feel that they are too much of a hassle. I haven't used water pencils much, so I have no real opinion of them. I think the tube paints are just easier to mix. I really haven't used more than one medium in a painting.
