Not so long back my dear Friend Darkwing started a Discussion about the relaxing and soothing of Lavender
I have had Lavender Air Fresheners in my room before but I found that they did not work that well as they did not really work that well to throw out the Scent
Well I have been having a lot of Problems sleeping I mean I would wake up every hour I would go to bed at 2am and still get up at 6am I have not been able to sleep and I have been like this for a few years now actually since my Illness
Well the other Day I was out shopping and I saw this new Air Freshener that has come out that Squirts the Scent
Now normally I would not have bought it as it is very Expensive but it was on offer half Price
I have the large Version in the Bathroom which I have had for a few Months now and it is very Powerful
So when I saw it was half Price I thought well no harm in trying it
Well all I can say is thank you that it was on half Price as I would never have bought it for the original Price and it is working wonders
I go straight to sleep at night I do not wake up every half an hour I am not tossing and turning and I am sleeping later in the Mornings to
So, Lavender really does work as long as you can get an Air freshener that works how it is suppose to work
I am glad that I bought it now

Try getting some dried lavender and putting putting it in muslin and put it under your pillow. It's a lot cheaper than the air freshener.

Gabs, it would have been quite a lot cheaper to buy some lavender flowers and put them in a muslin pouch to put on your pillow or beside your bed. lol. Then, when the flowers lose their scent, you just add a couple of drops of lavender oil. I'm going to have to sort you something out next time I come up... what are you like? lol.

What are you like? Just because a thing's on offer, doesn't mean it's a "must have". Ok, a good time for a trial, I'll grant you that, but next time, you're going to pay a lot more for it, so I have a little plan. :-) I'm going to "cook" something up for you.
Just a thought... does the lavender not work on DOGS? ha ha ha ha

Hi Gabs. Well I'm glad you're getting to appreciate lavendar - it really is a beautiful scent, and very relaxing and soothing. I have loads of lavendar bushes in my garden, and in the Summer I dry them, and a friend of mine makes little lavendar bags to keep under my pillow, and also in the Airing Cupboard and linen basket to make everything smell nice. Sadly I am totally challenged with anything involving sewing or handicrafts, or I could probably make the bags myself!! They are great though, and I aso always use a drop of lavendar oil in the bath - you can buy the oils really cheaply in some of the Charity Shops, and sometimes in the £ Shop as well!

I have seen alot of lavendar scented items. I was told that it helps you relax I am not sure if that was true or not because I wasn't really into lavendar scent I am more of a citris type scent lover. I may have to try lavendar because I am having troublee getting to sleep also.

muslin:
[a kind of cloth.] A thin cotton, white, dyed, or printed. The name is also applied to coarser and heavier cotton goods; as, shirting and sheeting muslins. In sheeting, muslin is not as finely woven as {percale}. [1913 Webster +PJC]
That is what my firefox dictionary gave me.LOL
Really any fabric, almost, will work. The looser woven the better to let the fragrance through.
The baby products work just as well for adults, too, you know!

I´m glad to hear the air freshener works for you. I use Lavender essential oil, rather expensive too, but it was a present from someone who doesn´t have to think so much about money as I do, lol.
You can put a few drops of it on your pillow to help you relax, but I think it works best when added to the bath. You can actually feel how your muscles relax. The oil lasts for ages as you only need a few drops of it. When the bottle is finished I´m going to buy a new one, because it´s worth the money. This is just another product you might want to consider buying when your air freshener is not half price anymore.
Good to hear that you sleep better.

Be careful. Too much lavender can cause headaches, why not try some incense or an oil burner if you are careful. Some oil on a hanky put somewhere effective might work too. It would be much cheaper than paying the full price when you need to replace your squirter. Cheers.

I won't have to replace the Squirter all I do now is buy the refills and they are quite cheap lol
I have it set on the longest time on the timer so it only goes of every 45 minutes and it is just a small squirt which fills the whole room

I love lavendar and it is very relaxing. I haven't tried the new air fresheners but I have lavendar body lotion I use mainly before bedtime. I've even gotten my grandkids into it when they stay over. LOL my 4 year old grandson told me a couple weeks ago when I said it was bedtime, "Grandma we have to have our lotion first." and pointed at the lavender lotion.

Gabs I am glad Lavander works for you because I am allergic to lavander. Lavender gives me a headache and makes me sneeze. I feel worse with lavander then without it. A lot of flowers do that to me, a lot of sweet sents also to that to my sinuses. I am not allergic to cats, dogs, or other non sweet things but I am to sweet flowers. Gardinas send me through the roof. I had a gardina bush and it was beautiful but I had to have it cut out because of my sinuses.
Good luck sleeping.

Air freshner has lots of odd chemicals in it honey.
Why not get some essential oil and pop a couple of spots on your pillow or a hanky?
I have a lavender Bunny who can go in the microwave too. Bit surreal putting a bunny in the microwave when you think about it, lol.
You can make a warmer with some buckwheat and lavender essential oil or lavender petals, in a sealed cotton. linen or muslin bag, mcrowave it and it's warm and comforting.
I'm glad you are getting some better sleep sweet!
Some kids with ADHD have a negative effect from it and get more hyperactive, yippeeeeeeee!

Well this is a late response. Ive started a few discussions on lavendar that I have growing. I take some leaves off & dry them out to add to my potpourri burners with a little water. Plus it works great and a lot cheaper than Airwicks deal and essential oils. try growing some. I live in Minnesota and it's a perrenial so it grows most everywhere Id guess. Here's a photo of mine.

Essential oils, ahhhhh! I buy a lot of different oils. Mostly vanilla and hyacinth. I am heading to the Minnesota State Fair this Sunday and that's where the wife and I buy a few bottles of essential oils. I have 4 now that are nearly gone so it's perfect timing. HAHAHA!

Sweetie I have found something better
Get some Pot Pouri and some Lavender Essential Oil which you pour some over the Pot Pouri and keep that next to your Bed it is healthier then the Spray and a lot Cheaper as once you have the Potpouri and the smell fades you just add a few Drops and it freshens it again

I like to put Lavendar bubble bath in my bath water. I also have lavendar soap and body lotion. When I can not sleep, I surround myself with Lavendar stuff and then I sleep so much better. I also spritz my bed sheets and pillow case with Lavendar cologne.

Put some water in a spray bottle and add some of your essential oil. Shake it up to mix it and then spritz your pillowcase or pillow or on a hankerchief that you place inside your pillowcase.

Hi Gabs,
That is great that you have been getting better sleep thanks to this air freshener. I find for me if I have a hot relaxing bubble bath with aromatherapy candles going I have a great sleep. Please do share with us what kind of air freshener it is so I can have a calming affect in my home. Thanks in advance hun, and have a great day!

It is the Airwick one but I think any lavender spray Air freshner will give the same affect as it sprays and it just moves round the room
I always had the Plug in ones but I think I will stick to the spray ones now they are more affective and you can set them to how often you want them to go of there is a timer on them

That's neat that it's got a timer. I will have to look into getting one, I hate the way a house with no air freshener has a stale smell. Thats how my house is starting to smell! Yuck!

Lavender is wonderful. If you get teh essentiel oil put a dab of it on your earlobes to help you feel relaxed and rest easy. The artificial scents really do not work as well. You can find some info on lavender at this site.
http://botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/l/lavend13.html
Also the Univ of Maryland does natural research and lavender is one of the plants they have included in medical research.

I'm glad it's helping you.I have a small lavender pillow that hangs from my bedpost near my side.
