My friends (neighbor) dog attacked me a few months ago. We found this puppy last year that was dumped in the country and my neighbor wanted it, I wanted to take it to the shelter. So the dog is like a year old, chained outside always, dirty, and never had any shots. He attacked me a few months ago for no reason, I just walked normally out the back door. He put two holes in my wrist. After an $800 ER visit, my neighbor friend doesn't understand why I won't go over and visit them. They still have not given the dog a rabies shot. My husband told him why I don't go over but he still keeps inviting us. Last year they were giving rabies shots for $10 at the local city park. Since the attack, they have gotten another dog, still no shots, and still keeps inviting us over. When will he get a clue?

I haven't looked to see where you are from yet, but, in my city if this had happened the dog woyuld have been quarantined and tested for rabies, given shots and the owner would not get the dog back until fees paid and there would be a polie report to get your medical bills paid. Many homeowners insurance policies cover this type of thing. Friend or not he is responsible for the dog as he took it in which makes him responsible for any damage the dog did. I don't think it is too late for you to go to small claims court against him. Also, if I were in this situation I would call the animal shelter and file a complaint. This dog attacked an adult, how long before it attacks a child. Your wrist may be a childs neck next time. That dog has tasted blood, you are right not to trust it ever again. It is animal cruelty to tie a pet to a chain and leave it out all of the time dirty. This animal is probably lonely.

No doubt the dog is probably lonely, especially now that there is another dog that gets to stay in the house and get loved on. We actually live on this friend's property, he's not in the best of financial means and we care about him and try to help him when we can. We did give his address and name so that animal control could at least check the dog etc. but they never showed up. We live outside city limits, but I agree, next time it could be a child's neck. They do have some friends that have a young child and I pray that baby won't get hurt, but these people are also expecting a baby of their own. I just don't understand why he won't get the dogs shots. I have two dogs of my own and yes, they are spoiled. But I believe by giving them shots on a regular basis shows the animal that you love them enough to protect them and they respond by not being mean and attacking other people. I would've waited til the next day and seen a doctor for a tetanus rather than ER if the dog had shots. I was terrified of rabies. He hasn't offered to help with the hospital bill. Right now, I just want to move away, but I hate to lose a friend because he's ignorant.

You can consult your local authority is this dog needs more strict control? Is it vaccinate, has it number and etc? You can ask consult also with other neighbors is it single case or the dog is dangerous for most people there. I think that your neigbor`s behavior is very careless and irresponsible:-(
