High Tea Anyone?

Scones - Fruit scones with jam and cream.

A bit posh? Yes, I realise that but I have to do something. I'm having a "strange" day today. At lunchtime, I decided to finish up the Chili Con Carne I had in the fridge and have that for lunch, just with some rice. So, this I did. Then, when it came to dinner time, I decided to go and make some fruit scones and have them with strawberry jam... I don't have any cream in the fridge, so thought maybe thick coconut cream on them instead. So... I trolled of out to the kitchen, and my mind went into overdrive, lol. I stood for five minutes debating whether to have Chicken Satay with stir-fried vegetables and noodles, but wasn't sure. So, eventually, still unable to decide, I prepared all the veg and chicken for the Satay, but whilst I was doing it, thought no, I can't eat this. So, I sealed it all up and put it in the fridge ready to cook tomorrow. Still craving scones, I was weighing up and putting into the mixing bowl, the basic ingredents, when all of a sudden... CHEESE popped into my head, so out came the mustard and cheese, and I made a batch of cheese ones... then I thought, well, I'd still like the fruit ones... so off I go again, a batch of fruit ones. I buttered the cheese ones whilst they were still warm... mmmmmmm, then when a bit cooler than those, I put the jam and coconut cream on the fruit ones, made a cup of tea, and returned to my computer over an hour later!!!! I think Gabs thought I'd gone to the shops to buy some! lol. Anyway, the upshot of all this is that I ended up with a batch of nine cheese scones, and a batch of nine fruit scones and they're far too filling for me, and not so nice the following day, so, I can invite eight of you... anyone up for a spot of high tea? ha ha ha. I'm going to start a tea garden!:-)

I haven't had a proper high tea since I was little. There was a tea shop on the 'coast road' along the north side of Morecambe Bay, which was only open in Summer. Ritually, my grandaparents would take us there, after an afternoon of playing on the beach. Big tea pots, scones with cream and fruit preserves, and possibly a slice of cake. No cucumber sandwiches, but still a real treat. I'm putting a suitable jacket on, and should be round in a few minutes.

Adren's Afternoon Tea - Afternoon tea, with salmon and cucumber sandwiches, vol au vents, scones and fairy cakes.
You'd like salmon and cucumber sandwiches my friend? You have them... along with your scones.:-) There's really no need to wear a "suitable" jacket... just bring yourself, Adren. I'm sure everybody will be in for a very educational yet amusing, tea time. As Gabs will tell you, I was going to invite Lizzie and Phil but they've made arrangements for a Garden Party at Windsor. Never mind, another time, huh? lol. So, you're safe without your jacket my friend... hurry on round!:-)

Ohhhh, ha ha ha... well whatever floats your boat Adren! Would you like me to order up some chamber music or a barber shop quartet for the occasion? :-)

Oh no, I really must dress for the occassion. I don't get out often, and enjoy the effort. I'm just putting my cufflinks on, and straightening my wing-collared shirt. The sandwiches look lovely, so I'll bring a bib, too!

No, Gabs... for your patience, I saved one especially for you. As for Lizzie, I did send the invite, with a red seal, and was respectfully informed thus, "My Husband and Ai, are regretfully unable to partake of your Hai Tea, as we have a prior engagement at a garden party, at Windsor Castle." So... all the more for us! he he he

Goodie, you have no excuses for not bringing scones next time you arrive, and I lurve scones. The plain ones with butter and jam and the cheese ones! I am not very good at making them, they come out a bit like soggy biscuits but they always get eaten. I think the Angels don't think a barbecue will be a good idea, the weather we are having though. I am quite pleased as the water board wanted to charge a fortune due to the "drought" ha ha. It has been more of a deluge and I am deeply sorry for the people who had too much water, but here we have had a drenching every day.

Chocolate Fountain and Fruit - A chocolate fountain with fruit for dipping.
I don't think I shall forget how to make them Shelagh; the recipe is engraved on my heart since the times I used to make batches of the things for Cricket Teas. I didn't dare leave the scones out. Mind you, if I'm to bring some to the barbecue, they shall have an added half-strawberry on the top of the cream!:-) Come to think of it, a chocolate fountain and some fruits would be nice. Mmmmmmmmm... luxury!:-)

Lakota's Scone - Happy Scone, running.
Ha ha ha ha... well, I can't find one with bells on, and you haven't got working wings, I see, so I'm now thinking of flying one to you, but that reminded me of Gabs and the flying cake, and I don't want to start that little Tink off again!So... I'm sending one who will come to you, without flying!!! ha ha ha Now... hold your arms out ready... Enjoy!

Is it too late to join you all for high tea? Those scones look mighty good. Are there any left? I have never had a scone. Are they sweet? I think I would like the ones with fruit or jam but not the cheese ones. Where are you all? No one told me where the tea garden is at. I found my vegetable garden but not the tea garden. Call me on my cell phone and tell me where the tea garden is. I am so lost and sort of lonely now.....and hungry too.

Of course it's not too late, Royal... the tea party is on the cricket field, by the church, in my village. Come along. In case you get lost though, I'll send you a couple of special ones with Cornish clotted cream, and a few strawberries, on the side. Is that ok? Huggggggggggs.
