We were wondering about our neighboors for quite sometime, you see here's how it started. We heard dogs barking at all hours of the night, so we told our landlord. Turns out they're supposed to have a pet lease agreement, which they don't. The landlord made a visit to see if they did have animals inside, and came to find there was none. We told her that we apologize that we were sure to hear of these dogs, and went on thinking we had imagined it. A few days later our other neighboor said they had heard this rucuss as well, and it was affecting they're sleep too. So the next day we all went to the landlord/manager and told her what was going on. Again she set up a unscheduled meeting to see if there was truly something going on, and when she went in she said she didn't see anything. It wasn't until she was leaving that she heard a puppy she said, she turned and questioned the tenats to see if it was true. They caved. Turns out they were running a puppy mill right inside they're apartment, underneath the stairs. They had like 50 puppies in the small crawl under the stairs, and like 4 adult dogs. How they got these animals in and out without anyone noticing or seeing them is beyond me. They were informed that they needed to get out right away after an extensive search of the home, because of the horrible damage around the house and the breaking of apartment policy. It was bizzare, I didn't expect to see that happen. Does this sound crazy to you too?

That sounds awful. I am so glad you got them reported to the landlords and that they believed you. I hope the dogs are safely housed now. Puppy farms of any type are bad enough but keeping them under the stairs! How awful it must have been for the dogs. I expect they never went out for walks or even had much fresh air. Some people are just so cruel.

Yes it was awful, I couldn't believe it. We talked to the officials that came to the house to take the dogs, and they told us that all of the dogs were very healthy amazingly. He said that however they were put into a very small place and it wouldn't have been good for long term life there. We actually talk to them and asked if we could help find them homes, and they agreed it would be good to have some help. So we had a puppy adoption ceremony in our town square, turn out was wonderful. All the puppies were adopted, only one dog was left one of the adults. My husband and I talked to the officials and they told us we could take the adult home for now until they found a owner. The great thing was since it was a home or pound situation for the animal, our landlord waived the fee for pet deposit. I was so happy, very happy for the poor animal. Anyway, the dog has found a good home because another person at our apartments is adopting it today. I'm so happy for this dog, the officials named him lucky. Its nice.

That's insane!
Some people are unbelievable.. those poor dogs. :(
Good for you for remaining persistant and giving that dog a good home for the few days it needed to find a new one.
I hope some animal welfare board like the SPCA gets on them, presses the issue and they are restricted from owning pets in the future.
Do you know what kind of dogs they were breeding? If it's purebreds, it might be helpful to know what breeds were affected and where it happened so I can pass it on to a few lists I'm on. Dog people are pretty good about hounding (no pun intended :)) officials and agencies to stop things like this from happening in the future.

I think that they said they were breeding mix breed between pit bulls and boxers. i'm not sure, it may have been bull dogs. The one we got was really old, and it was very protective of us the entire time. i wanted to keep it, but sadly i don't think that it would have been a good choices as I have a ferret and they didn't like each other.
