Any tips on visiting Disney World in Florida? email this discussion to a friend?

My family and I are going to Disney World, Florida in November with my sisters and their families. They both are staying at Disney owned hotels inside the park. I'm still trying to figure out what the best deal is and how to get it.

I've looked at staying at Disney owned hotels in the park and the lowest priced hotel I liked was the Port Orleans French Quarter.

Here are the results so far of my research:

For a 5 night stay with a 4 day park hopper pass, the Port Orleans French Quarter will cost $2052.81 for a family of four. That's a standard room.

The Royal Plaza premier tower room and 4 day park hopper pass is $1767.51. The room is large (419 sq ft).

The Doubletree 2 double bed suite with refrigerator & microwave is $1901.89.

Just purchasing the tickets is $1007.51. This price includes tax. That's for 4 days with the park hopper option. I haven't done any searching to see if I can buy tickets outside of Disney for less, mainly because I don't want to risk being scammed.

I'm still not sure on the hotel situation though. In the 80's, I stayed at the Hilton, which isn't Disney owned but is on the Disney property. We took a shuttle bus to the park and there wasn't a problem at all.

The Royal Plaza looks more luxurious, which appeals to me. Bath & Body Works products in the bathroom, a garden tub! Floor to ceiling windows with views of the park. The hotel rooms have recently been remodeled.

The Doubletree is a suite, which means the kids can watch their show while we watch ours. Plus it has a microwave and a refrigerator. That's pretty important in order to keep bottled water & snacks for the kids. And if we're going to spend 5 days & 4 nights all day and all night together, well we're going to need the 2 rooms to blow off any steam.

So does anyone have any tips, any suggestions, care to share your experiences? Thanks!

Oh how I envy you...my mom and I went to DisneyWorld a year or so after it had first opened and went there for a few more years afterwards--we always used to stay at the Polynesian which I loved---they didn't have half of the resorts there like they do now--if I had the bucks and could travel now...I sure would love to to to the Animal Kingdom Lodge...where one feels their in the middle of an African Safari atmosphere---probably real expensive though--

It's getting closer - we go at the end of October. Wow you wouldn't believe how much they want for a room at the Polynesian now. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is really expensive. We ended up renting a really nice house 10 minutes away from the park. My ex & his wife just took my daughter in July and so we rented from the same company that they did - they had an absolute blast and the house was great.

Check out www.disboards.com for more info than you probably need!

I recommend staying on Disney property whenever possible. It's worth it for the free transportation alone!

If you want to stay on property, but want something cheaper than French Quarter, they also have Value resorts (Pop Century, the All Stars), which are great since you'll only be there for such a short time. The All Stars also have family suites.

Thanks! Staying on property is a lot more convenient, isn't it?:)

Ok, we just came back from Disney...yesterday. The real world is such a let down.
1) Check out the dining plan....it was worth every cent.
2) Use breakfast as your snack - they don't tell you but a bagel or a muffin is also a snack. On the plan we had dinner had Raglan Road (wonderful food, pleasant atmosphere), the Yacht Club, Planet Hollywood and Wolfgang Pucks. The plan included non-alcoholic beverages, appetizer, main course and dessert (get the chocolate cake at Raglan Road!).
3) If you go for economy inns - go to Pop Century - I think their transportation is less crowded than the All-star)]
4) We went to the room and collapsed from sheer exhaustion - I was not concerned with luxury and brought my own bath and Bodyworks products. A refrigerator would have been nice...but we spent a 1.50 for a cooler and it worked. Microwaves were in the food service areas.
5) Get the mugs -- they are 12.50 with all the refills you can drink - includes coffee, soda and hot chocolate.
6)If you go for fireworks at epcot...make sure you get a front row view...a lot was on the ground..and if you don't see at eye level --- you will be disappointed.
Have fun -- we are already planning our next trip

Thanks for all the great tips! I've heard the fireworks/laser show at Epcot is so much better than the Magic Kingdom's. We're leaving this Sunday and the kids are really excited.
