Here we come, walking down the street |
| |
| How many remember the opening words to the theme song for the TV Show The Monkees? I loved this show and the group that came out of it. Yeah it was corny at times but it was a lot of fun to watch. Did you know that none of them even met before they were cast for the show? That the producers never planned on them making it to super stardom as a group? Kind of neat when you think of it. So are there any other Monkees fans out there? Did you have a favorite one out of the group? Did you have a favorite song or an episode? My favorite song was and still is "Shades of Grey". It's just one that always stuck with me. I'm torn though for a favorite character between Davy and Peter. Davy Jones is a great singer and I had a crush on him but Peter was just so naive and he always seemed like a little lost puppy to me. | | The Monkees | | | | |

| | I was a fan of the Monkees, I loved the show, and I know that they hadn't meet prior to doing the show, and that in the begining they didn't even get to do their own music that the show decided what music was going to be done, often they didn't even play the instruments on the recordings. They had to struggle to get to be real musicians and won. I always liked the song I Wanna Be Free. there are a lot of songs by the Monkees that I enjoyed, not sure I have a favorite, I liked Buy Me A Dog, it was fun, and goofy, and of course there were the ones everyone knows, Valerie, Last Train to Clarksville, I'm a Believer. Sometimes when we teased me niece when she was young we called her monkey and so I started singing her the theme song when I was teasing her. | | | | | | |

| | I love the song "I wanna be Free". It's another great one by them. One of my nieces movies recently had I'm a Believer in it but sung by someone else. I just can't remember what one it was. | | | |

| | I'm a Believer was used in Shrek, not sure who sang it, I know it wasn't the original. Some songs just last obviously or it wouldn't be still being recorded. | | | |

| | I LOVED THE MONKEES!! Davy Jones was just so cute and his accent drove me up the wall. The show was campy and so much fun. Contrary to popular opinion, they could play their own instruments. In fact, Davy was the only one trained as an actor from what I understand. Thanks for this memory. | | | | | | |

| | He did stick out frm the group with the accent. It wasn't a strong one either but he may have played it down at the time. It was campy but enjoyable. I'd love to show my niece it but I haven't seen it on to do so :( | | | |

| | I totally loved that show! And the guys were so incredibly adorable. I loved all their songs, but if pressed to pick a favorite, I would choose "DayDream Believer" I thought Mickey would be fun to hang out with. I am surprised that they weren't a group before the show. They had amazing chemistry. | | | | | | |

| | I agree, they appeared to have been together for some time. They did a great job with the casting I guess or it just shows how good of actors they are. I think it would have been fun to hang out with that group. It would have been a blast for sure. | | | |

| | Didn't EVERYONE love Davey? LOL Oddly enough they did a come back tour in the 90's and visited our hometown. I took my oldest daughter to see them because the tix were so inexpensive. I think everyone was there but 1 person... can't recall who though. I know Davey Jones was there though because I cracked up. My tastes have definitely changed as most any man that gets a 2nd glance from me NOW is tall and he is far from TALL! LOL | | | | | | |

| | I wanted to go to that reunion tour but couldn't :( Mike was the one missing. He refused to do the reunion but later did do a christmas video with them. He played the Santa and at the end they took off the beard and such to reveal who it was. You are right Davey is not very tall but sometimes good things come in good packages. | | | |

| | I knew there were more lyrics than just the first verse so I went searching the web. Here's what I found. (And oh yeah --- Peter Tork Forever!!!!) Theme from The Monkees By Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart Here we come, walkin' Down the street. We get the funniest looks from Ev'ry one we meet. Hey, hey, we're the Monkees And people say we monkey around. But we're too busy singing To put anybody down. We go wherever we want to, do what we like to do We don't have time to get restless, There's always something new. Hey, hey, we're the Monkees And people say we monkey around. But we're too busy singing To put anybody down. We're just tryin' to be friendly, Come and watch us sing and play, We're the young gneration, And we've got something to say. Any time, Or anywhere, Just look over your shoulder Guess who'll be standing there Hey, hey, we're the Monkees And people say we monkey around. But we're too busy singing To put anybody down. (break) Hey, hey, we're the Monkees And people say we monkey around. But we're too busy singing To put anybody down. We're just tryin' to be friendly, Come and watch us sing and play, We're the young gneration, And we've got something to say. Hey, hey, we're the Monkees Hey, hey, we're the Monkees [repeat and fade] extra verse: Hey, hey, we're the Monkees, You never know where we'll be found. so you'd better get ready, We may be comin' to your town. | | | | | | |
