how would you describe a typical workday? i work in accounting and most often than not, we (together with my officemates) put on an average of 12 hours at work trying to stay on top of our work load. sometimes its overwhelming that i wonder how others in their line of work manage.

I work part time in a non-profit thrift store. I am the properties clerk, so basically I work in the donations room. I check for donations outside, people bring them inside as well. The first day of my work week, the donations are stacked up to the ceiling and almost out of the door. I have to sift, sort, inspect the garments. If there are stains, tears, pet stains, urine, used undergarments and so on, we have to throw them away. You just wouldn't believe what we receive! People will wear their clothing and undergarments and then put it in a trash bag and give it to us stains and all. I then store the winter or summer depending on the season. Take the trash out and go on to the next batch of bags and boxes. I also have a section to upkeep in the store, mine is the baby section. I make sure everything is put right before the store opens and after it closes. Not too hard! I enjoy my job, it keeps me moving, the hours are great and I work one week 3 days and the next week I work 5. So, it is like a mini vacation every other week.

my eyes just popped open with what you have shared, i mean really??? they put it in a trash bag, stains and all and they call it "donation"? it must have been tough on your first few days.
at least you enjoy your job, and you are in a way helping people.

yes some people are just very nasty. They put their dirty underwear and socks, things that are broken that they can't use at all and send it to us. I cut my hand on a broken glass this morning. I was so mad. What we can't sell in the store, we give to the needy and to different shelters here to help low income families and the homeless. So it upsets me to see that people are thoughtless and do this. It is an eye opener that is for sure!

a typical work day is composed of at least 8 hours of sitting in front of the computer and making project evaluations or project proposals. continuously, references will be needed. the inputs are coming in from various government agencies.

hahahhahah.... i would have said boring, but then i suddenly realized that its the same with me. although in a different field of work. don't you just feel the ache in your lower body and sometimes a crick in the neck too, due to all that sitting and staring in front of the monitor? thanks for sharing:)
