|  my cousin is a punk. he's into skating. he's into black, gothic attire, get-up. he got long fringe(bangs), his fingers were colored black, he got big belt buckles, and he wears chuck taylor shoes. i told him he's an emo. he said he's not; he's just a punk.
is punk and emo the same?

| |  i dont think punk and emo are the same.emo is more kind of like gothic and than punk is sort of like alternative etc.i dress the gothic style and people
think i'm emo too.but that it is the truth that emo has it's own style of dress.
punk has been out for the longest time since back in the mid 80's.
they are both different to me.

| | yeah,they are fond of it,but i think it is a mix on gothic and than punk music that they like.gothic is a more of a darker side of life and than emo has it's own style of music and style.but the two kinda relate to each other since they both have about the same tastes in style and music.

| |  Punk and emo are not the same.
Punks are more into something different than emos.
They don't cry a lot, doesn't tend to linger on memories and the lonely stuffs, unlike emos who usually cry a lot.
Anyway, these are just my opinion.
No offense. I am an part-time emo myself when it comes to music and lifestyle.

| |  LOL he's probably more emo than he thinks, certainly not as goth as he tries to be and definitely not as punk as punks usually are. :-) It sound to me like he has taken elements of them all and combined them for his own unique style, cool

| |  UGH I cant stand the term "emo" I really cant....of course I hate labels overall so its no wonder I dont care for it...My son gets called an "emo" by some of the bullies at school..he is more punk than anything though (LOL I taught him well)...I'll have to agree with recycledgoth though that it seems your cousin is a mix of a few things....Which really I see no problem with...who says one has to follow ANY style ya know....I'm a little bit of everything depending on my mood any given day when it comes to how I dress...but how I think, feel, live and see life is definately goth if it must be labeled....LOL with a little bit of hippy thrown in and a tad of punk LOL
