To start out I was not raised in a military family, I am not married to a military man. I did not know this was even around. I found out about this charity this morning on CNN Headline news with Robin Meade and thought you all would like to read about it.
I was watching CNN Headline news this morning with Robin Meade and I learned about a charity that helps our military personnel and their families when they are sick or injured. It is called the Fisher House Foundation.
The Fisher House Foundation is a non-profit private-public partnership that supports American’s military in their time of need. (http://www.fisherhouse.org/aboutUs/aboutUs.shtml). The Fisher House is a house for the Military and their families to stay when they are seeking medical attention at other bases then their at their home town. The story on CNN headline news interviewed a family who stayed in a Fisher House when they went to a base to watch their deceased son get several honors for his bravery in the Afghanistan. The woman being interview said how important it was that the whole family was able to stay together on one home.
The Fisher House also administers the Hero Miles program that takes donations of people’s frequent flier miles and gives them to military personnel and their families when they have to seek medical attention on another base. Right now for Memorial day most airlines are matching the donations of frequent flier miles. That way the military personnel and their family can get a free round trip ticket in order to seek the medical attention they need.

Here is the links to the both stories that I found this morning. In the spirit of Memorial day please give any frequent flyer miles you can.

Its a great program for families. I've volunteered some time there and it really matters to the family. Nine years ago, the President was trying to get rid of the program, but there was too much resistance and negative feedback. Now more then ever, the program needs to stay. I'll continue to support the program...

Good job, I did not know that the president wanted to close down the program. I guess at the time of peace some would think it is an unneeded cost. I disagree and I am glad that it did not get closed down.
