Tiger is the national animal of India. Peacock is the national bird. Earlier our national anial was lion, but later it was changed and tiger made the national animal. Inspite of being the national animal the population of the species in India is dangerously declining. A latest survey shows that the species has not improved in numbers inspite of protectionary meassures taken by the government. However peacock the national bird are plenty in our country. Usually people won't kill peacock for religious reasons. Peacock is considered by Hindus as the vehicle of Lord Muruga, son of Siva. Ok what is the national animal and national bird of your country? Any particular reason for choosing them to the national stature? Please convey the information as part of understanding about various countries.

In our state Kerala our national bird is the hornbill. I assume that Canada has not selected a bird as its national bird. Thank you winterose for the response.

I would say that in the United States our national bird is the American Bald Eagle. I don't believe that we have a national animal. At least I have never heard of one.

Hello miryam, Thank you very much for responding to my discussion. I have noticed you while reading some of the discussions you have started and you responded. So, you don't have any strange animals or birds in Italy. So you suggest you don't have a national animal or bird? Are you sure?

Coat of arms - This is heraldry not a garment for an octupus.
The National animal of England is the lion. I am not sure why as we don't have any but we use it on our coat of arms (see photo) and so it is the three lions on our football shirts. The unicorn helping us represents Scotland. According to the list here: http://www.camacdonald.com/birding/CountryIndex.htm which seemed to note all of the national birds England does not have one.

I am in Ireland and I had no idea what either would be so I went to look at Wiki. Apparently ournational animal is the Stag, of which you don't exactly see many of. It had nothing listed for birds, so Ichecked Birdwatch Ireland, but theyconcentrate more on conservation and wetaland information so I cam eup dry on that one, sorry. MAybe another Irish person will come along and enlighten us on what the Irish National Bird is.
