I came across this wonderful page full of quotes by Mark Twain, and I was amazed at his sense of humor, but also his deep philosophical type viewpoints of life....You can read more of his quotes here http://www.quotationspage.com/quotes/Mark_Twain/ But I like to share some that I thought were great.... 1). Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint. 2). Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear. 3). I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened. 4). I have never taken any exercise except sleeping and resting. 5). If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything. 6). In the first place, God made idiots. That was for practice. Then he made school boards. 7). It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. 8). Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great. 9). Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow. 10). Suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself. These are just a few....maybe you have a favorite one that you see from that page and would like to share it

I have always enjoyed Mark Twain and his wonderful way with words. It's just a shame so many today who read his works have had it first screened through the censor of politically corret. That however is another discussion :) I love the first one on there, be careful of reading health books. Of course the excercise one is good along with the comments about idiots, congressman and school boards. How true some of those sayings are. Thank you for the reminder of his wonderful words.

Oh I'm sure he was considered to be very outspoken probably still is to some today. Still his wit and intelligence cannot be denied. He was a man of considerable talent.

Wow, a fellow Mark Twain lover! Just recently I've also been reading his works and famous quotations. I love his wit, and his sarcasm. His sense of humor is really something, and the way he was able to deliver his thoughts into really witty remarks are simply remarkable. Thanks for the link!

I think about the only person who might even get a little close to Twain in wit and sarcasm was Will Rogers, although he was not the prolific writer that Twain was. +

He was probably America's first satirist --- wonder what he'd think of our world now?? Bet he'd have a lot to say

1). Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint. This is so true. My former roommates mother used to read medical books &, suddenly developed whatever she had read the most recently. In my early 30's I had a bout of tinnitus, the loud bells then the dizzy spells. My doctor asked if I read medical books, I told him "No, they give you ideas." He smiled & agreed with me, so I told him about the roommate's mother. He then told me that I had a "textbook" case of tinnitus & that I was a bit young for it. I'm happy to say I haven't had it again! If I never have it again it'll be too soon!

I think he was way ahead of his time with some of his comments--especially the political ones--I guess he didn't think much of the government even back then...wonder what in the world he'd think now? LOL

These are really great! I really liked the second one and the fifth one! Thanks for sharing! I didn't know though that it was Mark Twain who said : It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

i like #8 the best.it's very, very true. nothing some people like more than watching other people fail, partially because they'd done so themselves.

Mark Twain was a very interesting sort, remarkably astute and never afraid to give his opinion. I have always been fond of the quotable quotes that people have said. I enjoy the art of puns too. I wish I had more time for miscellaneous reading like that.

I wish I had more time to read too....I have a whole stack of books I want to read, and I usually like to read while in bed before I go to sleep--problem is...I fall asleep before I get any serious reading done! So frustrating

I live just 38 miles from Hannibal and in the summer when I am home in the USA we go there quite often. You picked out as one of your choices my favorite. It is your number 7, "It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." I have a t-shirt with a picture of Mark Twain on it and that saying. I love it.

Whoa.. these are awesome qoutes! Hehehe.. thanks for posting them up.. I think the one on the number eight is so spot on, so I picked that as my favorite out of the rest of the qoutes. hehehe. I have not read any of Mark Twains' books either... but now that I read these qoutes I might have more reason to try and get one of his. I like reading stuff about things that make me realize and understand more about life and all the pecularities it throws at you... and these books the likes of Mark Twains' and the humurous writing style would make the reading experience more pleasant and more worth looking forward to hehehe...
