Throwing Newborns as Trash--How can women do this?

On the news I just heard one of those stories that seems to be all to common nowadays...that is about a woman who gave birth and then just wraps the newborn in a garbage bag and trashes it like so much garbage. What the hell is wrong with women? Why do they do this? Don't they realize how precious life is? Don't they realize that there are so many women who can't have children and would love to adopt a baby? If these women don't want their babies, why don't they just put them up for adoption? I think the worse story was that one a few years ago about that girl at a prom who gave birth in the restroom then trashed it--Every time I here stories like this I just get so disgusted http://www.cnn.com/US/9706/24/prom.baby.presser/index.html

I know when I found out that I was pregnant.I was really scared.I was alone and all I could think was how was I going to take care of a kid.Luckily my folks came thru for me.they were great from the moment they found out I was having a baby. She is now 10 and I wouldn't know what my life would be like without her.

I don't understand how anyone could do this, either. If they don't want the baby and bother to carry it to term, then take it to one of the safe drop-off places! Is it really that hard to do?

They have to be sick or crazy to do stuff like that. I read where this man threw his baby in the oven and stuck an apple in its mouth and brought it out for dinner to his wife, He saida he did this because he was jealous of all the attention his wife gave the baby.. SICKO They have no heart and they have no souls so they do not feel a thng..

I cannot understand it either. I know here in Florida (not sure if it's country wide or not) we have the safe baby drop off. Many places are available for this, they can just drop them off, no questions asked. Even with this though we still get stories about babies being left in restrooms or in the trash. The worst I heard about was a woman who left one in the toilet at Disney World. It just really makes me wonder about the women involved in this. How can they do that to a baby let alone their own child? How unfeeling must they be.

I've never heard of a safe baby drop off...I guess it's not in all states..but the women could also drop off the baby at a hospital if there aren't such places as a drop off

Any of the public/county departments in this area work. Hospitals, fire stations, police stations, even libraries and churches. Some of the convienence stores have it as well like 7-11. It has helped to cut it down but it still happens. I think it should be a country wide thing. Being able to drop them off without question would make it easier for some.

It is so sad that women do that. Especially now that most hospitals have adopted the policy that a woman can drop her baby off there, if she doesn't want it, and the staff will take it with no questions asked. It just makes me want to cry when things like that happen.

That is terrible and makes me cry. I hate about hearing stuff like that. I agree-it's discusting. They all have excuses too, but personally I dont care to hear them. There are lots of people stuck in situations that aren't easy and they dont trash their babe's. Sigh. It makes me hug my little one even tighter because I am so glad he's here with me. I hate that prom girl story. Makes me want to vomit, seriously.

Your not the only one that gets disgusted. The other option if they really didnt want the child is to have an abortion. I know not everyone is for abortions but if you dont want the child then why kill it or attempt to kill it at birth when you can get into loads of trouble but do it as soon as you find out you are pregnant and you wont get into trouble.

Well that is sad to hear , but in Singapore people who throw their newborns as trash , will be caught after investigation ,the people here can't escape responsiblity . So the rate of throwing newborns here is kinda of low as people would know it will be a dangerous thing to do to throw newborns away . Prehaps US or other countries police should do more jobs .

There are a lot of reasons women do it, but that doesn't mean I agree with them. I think a lot of times, the women are scared about having a child and taking care of one and they are afraid of what people will say if they put it up for adoption. Some teenagers are afraid to tell their family they are pregnant so they don't and try and destroy all evidence of the child after it's born, including the child mostly because parent's are hard on their children when they end up pregnant. Then again you have those selfish mothers that don't want a child but are too lazy to stop a pregnancy from occuring, so they have the child and dump it going on with their life pretending it never happened. I think it's selfish and horrible of a woman to do that. Especially when they are so many women/ families that would have to have a child but cannot.

One of the things I hear about in relation to this is how the woman hides the pregnancy especially if she's very young---I'm trying to figure this out..how can one hide a pregnancy?? It's a little obvious isn't it?

There are so many places to go for women who don't like to keep their newborns nowadays. Here in my country, there is a message that's been playing all over the radio station. It stated where to reach people for help in case of unwanted pregnancy and what number to call. I'm saddened and horrified about the news. In this age, I thought people will be smarter and more aware of unwanted pregnancy. The woman can give up her baby for adoption. I'm sure there are a lot of women who will love to take her baby. I have a mylot friend who is already in her late 30's and can't have any baby. This is something that I can't comprehend. Why is it that women who love to have their babies can't bear one. While others are just throwing their babies like a trash. Life is full of ironies, isn't it.

I believe I know who you are talking about--it seems so unfair that many women are dying to have children and can't, and then those that can just trash them

I agree with you pyewacket, I don't understand this either. They need to stop and think about what could have happened if their mother had decided to do that to them, they might not be here today. I agree with you that if they don't want the baby then give it up for adoption. The baby is innocent and should not be punished. SheliaLee

In my opinion, it's just plain evil. Only a very disturbed sociopath could comitt such a heinous, unconscionable act. Fortunately, we don't hear about this sort of thing very often. I believe (I hope) that is because it does NOT happen very often. I cannot even begin to understand why a girl or woman would do such a horrible thing.

I completely agree with you. Just yesterday on a documentary television show I was watching they talked about a one year old baby girl that had been found burned by her own father! That's just as bad as dumping a newborn in the trash. And the worst part is she had been with a family that wanted her but the birth parents were not able to extort from them so they took the baby back just to kill her. That is EVIL!

such stories also depress me, I can not imagine what the poor woman must be going through to make her take such a heart-breaking decision. All my experience, of dealing with such women in prison, suggests to me they act while the balence of their mind is disturbed. As for your questions about dont they realise how fragile and precious and fragile life is, my answer would be yes they do but the mental state they are in, dictates their actions, often do not correspond to their feelings blessed be

i understand what you are saying. i truly do. the poor woman who had to do it probably at the very instance finds it a higher priority to hide what is happening than to think about what is actually going on. in her state of mind maybe thats the only thing she can think of. it is still depressing they did not approach anyone for help though. i read in readers digest how a housewife set up a center where girls can bring in their newborns and no question asks. the lady even had the state approve a law to NOT persecute whoever sends in their newborn. saves a lot of baby she did.

You are right. Unfortunately it is getting to be an all to common thing these days, and rather sad, cause like you said there are people who can't have babies, that would gladly take the baby and raise it as their own in a loving family environment. That's not the worst case I have heard though. A few years back a lady from the town over from me, threw her ten month old baby into an outhouse. The baby was in that outhouse for two days before it was discovered. The baby was found alive and by some miracle lived through this ordeal, but it still leaves the question why did this woman do it. I couldn't ever imagine harming someone, let alone a precious baby. I would rather shoot myself, before I allowed myself to do something that horrid. I don't like it costs anything for a person to release their child into adoptive care, so why some women prefer to "throw away" their children is beyond me.

I'm sure that some of the women who do this are hormonal and disturbed and need lots of love and support. But I'm also sure that some, a minority I hope, are simply callous, cruel and think only of themselves. This is what happens when you give youngsters the idea they can have anything they want and there are no standards and values practiced in the home. It's, as you say, happening way too much these days.

We have a case going on now in our city, where the girl just threw her baby away. She is facing some time in prison. I don't understand how heartless some women can be. You are right, there are so many options out there. Ya know what though, these woman have to live with themselves in the end. Knowing what they did to a poor little baby.
