I think a state allows this sort of thing because it is necessary.

More people who carry guns illegally are probably the reason why. It gives the law abiding citizens a chance against the gun toting criminals.

I understand your uncertainty on this issue. If 'Brady' types ever fully control D.C., registration could definitely backfire on the most law abiding of gun owners.

Yet, the numbers of news stories highlighting responsible concealed carriers, saving the lives of family members, as well as innocent strangers grows as the number of states pass concealed carry legislation.

I've not gone through the conceal carry process myself. So, I'm not sure if the permitting process requires disclosure of all the guns one owns. If it doesn't, then I would say "Go for it". Especially, if you've ever had any military training. I, for one, appreciate the growing numbers of ex-military, and law enforcement individuals who step forward to let the world know that responsible gun ownership is an asset to society, and not a liability.

If it's illegal to own guns, then the only people who will have guns are the criminals. So, evening out the numbers helps all.
