I don't know very much of Bulgarian history but being from Romania I know quite a few things about the Southern neighbor of my country. I don't even know where to start! There's just so much... When I was little I was watching the cartoons in the evening on Bulgarian TV (Leka nost deta), and later on I used to watch the Champions League matches on Efir 2 (later named BTV). In school I studied for about 3 years Russian language, so it was easy for me to read and even understand a bit of Bulgarian. Just this week-end I was enjoying some Bulgarian music on a TV station called CK Folk (DesiSlava, Nikol, and, of course, Slavi Trifonov and Ku Ku Band). Bulgaria has developed a strong touristic network recently, so many Romanian citizens prefer going in Bulgaria (at the Golden Sands or on the beach) instead of going to our own beaches. The quality of the services is better and the price is lower. There is much more I could say...

I went to Bulgaria and Romania last year. I got a cheap flight to Bourgas and used it as a bas for exploring. First I went to the beautiful old city of Plovdiv, situated on seven hills. I liked seeing the interesting buildings there. Next I went to the medieval capital of Veliko Tanova. I really loved seeing a sound and light show at the amazing looking fortress. After seeing some of Romania I went to the city of Varna on the Black Sea. I liked the park by the edge of the ocean with all the lovely flowers and fountains. Then I went to Ahtopol, a village further down the Black Sea coastline. I liked its charm. From there I spent a day in Sinemorets. I liked the national park there by a wonderful unspoilt beach. But the other side of the village had been ruined by a large multi story hotel being built right next to waht used to be another beautiful beach. I had a few language problems in Bulgaria. My Lonely Planet guide had maps written in English and they did not marry up with Bulgarian rood names where there were any. I had much confusion at a booking office for trains. I found the local people friendly. I didn't like seeing rubbish on the ground though. It is quite a poor country compared to most of Europe.
