One of my passions is using and collecting the most beautiful stationery items you can find..pens, pencils and personal diaries and notebooks..I am in love with them..fortunately here in Italy there is an old tradition in this field and here in Rome there are several shops where I can find Florentine papers or Venetian handmade notebooks and even fine leather diary...mmm wonderful! buying a new notebook and smelling it and writing on it..a magic moment, indeed!!!

hi maribea, i can relate to that. being a very emotional person, i kind of treasure my olf stuffs like pencils, notebooks, colors...mementoes and greeting cards. my closet if full with such stuffs but i just cannot part with them. each has seperate sweet memories. how can i let go!! in between, i hand through the trasure. i remember gettiing one metal drink cap draped in silver foil, its so silly but i still have it. its indeed magical moments smelling and reminiscing good old days..

i find a special pleasure in writing with my favourite pen or on my beloved notebook..I know it might seem silly but I think this is because I give these things a special meaning and they can make me happy!!! a little foolish, but harmless so I keep on buying me things I like and I enjoy using them!!!!

This is the first time I have heard of this on this site. It must be a wonderful passion. I, as an artist, can appreciate this very much. I love paper in general. Looking at it, feeling it, using it. Do you collect these and give them as gifts ever? Or do you just use them? There are a lot of beautiful ones out there, but you can make your own too.

This all sounds so beautiful and romantic. The other day I was going through a box of cards and letters I've saved for years and years. There were letters my grandmothers and ex-mother-in-law wrote to me and were on beautiful stationary. It made me think how much we have lost with the internet and 'e-mails'. I have a few I've saved for a couple years but nothing like the beautiful loving letters written 20 or even 40 years ago.

Oh Dear you have me in tears. In my heart I too am old fashioned and very much miss the 'old days' I'm afraid I've done my best to move forward into the modern age but at the same time have lost some that was once very important to me. At first this seemed an unemportant discussion but you have made me look deep inside myself and take a serious look at my life - thank you so much my friend. On a lighter note - I look forward to receiving one of your 'important' letters and will charish it always just as I do those letters from my grandmothers and such... Just one favor - when you write mine could you do it in your native language and then interperate it for me :) The first will be the most prized but would still like to know what you say :)

my dear faith, as you know I am a rather old fashioned woman and I prefer writing letters than emails and I write letters when I have something important or special to say..I can better explain myself when writing and I think that important matters deserve important things..so maybe one day or another I can write you all my friends here a letter to show you how much I appreciate your friendship

Maribea dearest, I am like a kid in the candy shop when I shop for stationary items. I love fountain pens and love writing as well - There is no limit to how much of this silly stuff I can collect - pens, papers, diaries, pencils...you name it! So, you get handmade Venetian notebooks in Rome?? Could you let me know where as I will be in Italy by end of June and I would love to pick up some.

oh you can find wonderful stationery shops here in Rome ...for example if you go to the Pantheon there are two shops called Cartoleria Pantheon and Il papiro that I am sure you will like very much...and of course you can find "carta marmorizzata" (this is the proper name of the old Venetian way of treating paper) in Venezia, too or if you go to Firenze you can find Florentine way of decorating paper and so on

I love thick parchaments and also fountain pens, as well. I love the smell of them and the heavy feel of thicker papers. It is a pity men penmanship does not do them justice!

i prefer handwriting to typing even though it may be more difficult reading when you write than when you type..I like the way handwriting can express our personality and feelings, too

When i was younger i used to write a lot of letters on nice stationery, but these days with email and instant messsaging and mobile phones letter writing is fading out fast! I used to love getting mail from friends, but now all we get is bills!

I love letters and I use emails only because they are faster and help me getting into touch with my friends who live so far from me...but from time to time I like writing them letters because I hate this fact..that we can find only bills in our mailboxes!!!!

I love hand made paper and notebooks. I should say I love stationary, but other than cards, I am not sending letters any longer... We have one store here in Chicago with Italian hand made paper...it cost fortune...but it is beautiful.. In art supply store we have lots of hands made notebooks...funny pens and stationary... I love pens, so I have more than can be used in my lifetime..:)

Hi maribea (a wonderful avatar's name), Yes, I loved collecting various stamps, beautiful letters and envelopes when I was a kid. When I had two same beautiful letters, I bartered with my friend. It was a wonderful thing that I could still remember it. But now, I also love collecting unique souvenirs. Do you have any special stationery items that you would like to buy from Canada?

Ahahah.... I myself have two full drawers of stationeries... Ones that I have bought and collected when I was in high school. Most of them actually have not been used yet. Well, I am not really into writing letters but I liked buying them then, and so I ended up with a lot of them. I also fancy papers, cardstocks, and notebooks. I know I will not use them all but when I see them I just get this urge of buying them. But lately I have not been buying anymore, I have to control myself.

What a delightful hobby; collecting such beautiful stationery items. I love buying stationery sets as gifts for people, but erm, often I end up keeping them myself as they're just too gorgeous and I want to keep them all for myself LOL. Sounds like you have a lovely collection and from your picture too it all looks great. Well done on such a cool hobby. x

You and my husband may share that same feeling. He collects Magic: The Gathering collectible cards. When he buys a booster pack (15 random cards wrapped in foil), he gets that crazy look in his eye like he could run an asylum. With a smile of passion. My husband and I do have a little something from high school we used to do. One of us would get a 200 page spiral notebook, and we would trade it off between classes so as to keep in touch. We still have all three notebooks to this day. I try to encourage him to write in one, but with his work keeping him busy, I'm left at home, notebook in hand. I guess Mylot helps with that feeling just a tad bit, just with thousands, if not millions of other people.

A notebook can help you convey feelings that you may not be able to say, or express at times. I find that it was a easy way to show my husband that I cared about him, and that even though I may not say it sometimes I'm always thinking it and feeling it everyday. I used this same thing with friends, and family. However sadly recently i've lost all my friends due to being in the military and we've gone down seperate paths of life. The family didn't quite like the long distance writing, and we've succumbed to technology. However I will always believe that writing in itself can show triumph, love, regret, and happiness right in the very words on the pages. I think that its almost like painting a picture, only done with words and thoughts.
