Cancelled my plan to visit UK because it is a racist country.......

I am from India and i planned to visit UK for higher studies.But recently i saw a TV show called Big Brother where the UK girl treated badly with our Indian actress on the basis of skin color. I thought UK is a highly developed country with good mind of thinking but that incident shocked me. UK still has people who discriminates others on the basis of skin color.This is not good for UK for maintaining good relationships with other countries.

I think there are racists and bigots in all countries and cultures. But they are not necessarily representative of their country or culture.
You have just judged all of the citizens of the UK based on the actions of a few. That makes you (notice I singled you out and did not say all people from India) a racist.

So you can draw a conclusion about an entire country based on the actions of actors on a TV show, but when I draw the same conclusion about you as an individual based on comments you made, then I am wrong?

Yes he is worng in judging the whole U.K as racist.
Actually it depends upon people to people. U can not blame a whole country or a community like that. Racist people are plenty available in India itself.
But the point which we often wonder is y we always get to hear racist stories from u.k.
The Indian media provides us lot of incidents occured in heathrow airports and places like that where asians are being treated badly.

I am sorry to hear that. I think nice and bad people are all over the world. Sometimes you will meet some bad people, but it doesn't mean that all the people from this place are bad. I know a friend who is from UK and I have to say he is a very nice person. He is a real gentleman. I always appreciate his help for me to improve English.
I hope one day I can visit UK. So I don't think it's a good idea that you cancelled your plan to UK just because of one person.

i don't say that the whole country is a racist country . but many instances has occured that leads me to a conclusion that uk is more in racism

lol i posted a similar kind of discusiion few months ago. I got very good answers from my firends. U can check out my questions.
But what i would like to say is that dont conclude anything from television. Its a wastage of time and energy. It is rightly called as an Idiot box.
U know all these news are affecting the students. I think you should reconsider it and tkae your own decisions!

UK is no different to any western country .. there are people who are racist EVERYWHERE you go .. just as there are RUDE people and IGNORANT people everywhere you go....the Big Brother thing was wildly taken out of context....Jade Goody and Danielle LLoyd are not typical of people in the UK ... it is only nutters that go in Big Brother in the first place by and large..Jade Goody has the intelligence of a flea ( and severe physchological problems) and Danielle Lloyds is not much better if at all...there are lots of Indians in the UK in higher studies..maybe best if you can possibly get in touch with someone who is studying here and get their opinions...suggest you get in touch with student unions at various Universities via websites...

UK is not more nor less racist than any other country. I am not supporting racism but that's everyday thing around the globe. Some people are narrow minded and nobody can change that but just because of that we can't judge the whole nation. I was a witness when a 70 year old men didn't let a black guy enter the bus saing that his people have to walk. We are living in 2008! But in my town you have a lot of people who aren't from Italy and i have nothing against them. So Would you judge me because of that old man?
