Tough one. I was stepmom to two beautiful deaf girls for five years, and I taught myself sign, and fell in love with the richness of Deaf culture. But to not hear my children say "I love you Mom..", well, I don't know about giving up hearing. Taste is not necessary in life - it's enjoyable, yes, but not necessary to sustain life. We must have touch; everyone needs human touch and to touch others. Smell - I don't know, I couldn't smell things on fire or if a skunk was nearby to avoid it!! Sight..no way. My children's faces and smiles and beautiful eyes are the sweetness in life. But I have to choose one, so I'd say I agree with you...it's taste. Good question!!!

I would have to say the sense of taste as well!
I can't imagine living without eyesight or hearing, especially after having it all of my life.
Taste, well...that would just make sense. I would only eat when I needed to, and might just take off that 12 pounds that I have been working on for so long! LOL!

I think I'd like to give up taste. I have an eating problem sometimes. I've been obese my whole life. If I couldn't taste the chocolate or the favorite snack food, I could resist it.

About 95% of the time I can not smell. So I would say smell. It's not all that bad. Taste would be hard because that is how I cook I taste it to see what it needs. I think my boys would be sad if their mom wasn't able to cook the way I do.

I do not know, this is a very hard question modes.
I know that i excel in all of those senses.
Love to touch and be touched, can not live without that. lol.
tasting is my life, so that also stays.
hearing is a very important thing to me, because i love music and hearing what people really mean when they play with their vocality.
and seeing is so much me, i enjoy IT too much, so i do not know.
Well i do not want to give up any of those. LOl.
Hope it is allright with you:0
Lol.

LOL, yes, that is alright with me - and perfectly normal I would say. Who would actually want to give up one of their senses?
I have a friend who is completely deaf. She could hear fine until she was 2 years old and then suddenly with no reason she became deaf. Her ears are perfect and the doctors are baffled.
My friend believes that her deafness was a gift from God as she has been spared from hearing things that may have hindered her from attaining holiness.
I think she has a great attitude about it.

That's a tough one. I know I can't hear (deaf) do sign languages. I have to have my eyes to see pretty things, smell well I think I can live with out that because some things stink! taste I need that for food and touch to feel it would be strande to be able to touch anything as I had that experinced before I couldn't feel the heat that's when I ahd a stroke.

Hi Modestah, How are you? You are definately challenging me tonight with this question...I could stand to lose about 10 pounds, so tastes does not bother me. I think that if I gave up sight I would gain so much more by hearing better, people and nature. I would wake up and smell the roses, touch people's hearts...and tastes would allow me to lose my 10 pounds...I just had to respond to this great discussion, this is how I feel about it...Hope I don't sound too silly...take care...

I agree with you about taste....taste is the least necessary, imo.

i've already lost my sense of smell for the most part (really)..so,i'll go with taste.it's kind of been dulled anyway with the lost of sense of smell.
i couldn't handle losing my sense of sight at this age-i'd have to relearn to get around.

If i would also to choose,i would give up also my sense of taste coz it's really hard to give up the other senses especially the sight.

For me, it will have to be the sense of smell. Not to be able to smell something may be advantageous sometimes, especially if things around you smell obnoxious and hurts the nose. Others might get affected but not you. The other senses are too valuable to me to lose, especially sight, hearing and touch.

Taste is probably the safest one...but if you chose smelling you would lose your sense of taste anyway...but at least then you would be able to smell how good your food would taste. That is an amazing question.

Hmmm, well I already have hearing aids and losing my sight so why not lose taste too. It doesn't serve anything really except letting me know what food is good and which is not. You would still be able to know if something is hot or cold by touch so no big loss there.
