Don't buy a Dell computer  

its a very sad news, to hear that DELL missed such thing. i believe that could be a mistake only, because a company like this one, will give thier best to customer satisfaction. if they are performing well, they will lose their market. why dont you try to contact them & tell what went wrong.

Did you all purchase a refurbish computer? Maybe that is what the problem is. I purchased a refurbished one online and had a good deal of fun designing it....In any case, I understand how you feel b/c Dell do not sell their computers cheap - it doesn't matter if it is new or old.

However, I would advise anyone to purchase a Dell before purchasing a Compaq. Compaq's are nothing but headaces! You can only use, for the most part, Compaq parts....No, Dell is far better. Try not to be to upset about it......and demand they make ammends for not selling you what you wanted. Good-luck.

Well seeing how dell builds your computer to your liking. When you called them about the sound issue, what they probably meant was that the sounds mixing you wanted was an additional feature that was not included in the computer you choose. It was probably a feature that you needed to pay extra for. I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and am absolutely happy with it. I ordered it online and they built it the exact way I wanted it and yes I had to pay a little extra for certain features that I wanted that weren't standard features. The company my dad works for will only buy Dell. Just to express how good Dell's are. My dad is contracted out to work at Kennedy Space Center where the shuttle goes up. Kennedy Space Center only uses Dell and nothing else. My dad is a computer techinican! He swears by Dell!!!! So it really just sounds like a big misunderstanding between you and Dell. Hi, I am a computer technician and system builder. I'd like to try to explain about the problem you are having.

Dell custom builds computers. The prices shown online for each model is a pretty basic machine.
Then when you click on customize you are given the options available for that model to make sure it fits your needs. Competition being what it is, this is quite necessary. The idea is that customers can buy affordably exactly what they need.

I have some elderly customer that the only use they have for a computer is to check their email.

Those customers dont want (and cant afford) all the bells and whistles that they would have no desire to learn how to use.

I just built a machine for one elderly lady. It was quite cheap because she wanted only a cd-rom. No cd or dvd burner.

Over 90% of the systems I build do not have the audio function you mentioned.

I have it lucky in my business though, I live in a very small town and know the great majority of my customers personally. I take the time to find out exactly what they want the computer to do, and then I build it to do exactly that. For example: If my customer is deaf, I am not going to milk them for an expensive sound card and speakers with a huge woofer.

In the future, you may want to have a friend that is pretty up on hardware and software go over the specifications to make sure that it is going to meet your needs.

Option two, would be to buy a system off the store shelfs with all the bells and whistles at a higher price though you might be paying for a whole lot of packages you will never need.

One last comment. I recently helped one of my customers purchase a laptop computer from Dell for his Business. He asked me to come and make sure he got everything he needed. (I dont build laptops, but had previously built three desktop computers for his business) So, basically I just went over to go over it with him as a friend. They had the laptop we chose on sale for $399 dollars. Time we added the additional stuff he required (mostly software: Quickbooks, Office, Antivirus, etc.) The computer was just over $800. He got everything he needs, but no extras that he wont use.

In order to be competitive and give the customer the best deal you can for the money spent, this is pretty much how it works now.

Dell does have a good product at an affordable price.

I'm sorry to hear that you have problems with your computer AndriaToh. I have also been scammed online too (ebay).
The computer that I have now is not from Dell, but I had a Dell computer that worked great for years. Maybe this computer is a refurbished one?
