Can watching TV while you eat really make you gain weight?

Like most families, we eat dinner in front of the TV every night. But, I just read an article in a diet magazine, that suggested that people who eat their food in front of the TV tend to weigh more than those that eat at the dinner table. I'm not sure if it's true. Do you think that there could really be a link?

Good question. I'm not really sure how strong i believe the link is. One possibility is that some people may be prone to eat more when watching TV because they are distracted by what they are watching. Another possible link is that peopl eat teir mal and then continue to sit in front of the TV, and are therefore less active that they would be if they didn't eat in front of the TV. Just possibilities. Sarah Brown www.sarahpersonaltraining.com

I don't really think that it is the watching TV part that they are really talking about here. I think it is more of the distraction factor that they are referring to. If you are distracted away from what you are eating and how much you are eating, then you will have a tendency to eat more than you really should. Of course there are always those people that eat at a table and watch tv all at the same time and the same thing applies to them as well. It is supposed to be much better if you just sit and concentrate on your meal and how much you are eating instead of staring at the tv and just shoveling food into your mouth. Which, I have a tendency to do. :)
