Looks like they are finally getting a dish of their own despicable meal. Ms. Del Cid, of Tampa Florida, is counter-suing our friends at the RIAA on the following five charges: 1. Trespass 2. Computer Fraud and Abuse 3. Civil Extortion 4. Civil Conspiracy (use of PI w/out license, unauthorized access to a protected computer, extortion, knowingly collecting an unlawful consumer debt using abusive means) Now before you cry "How could it be?!? RIAA is epitome for libery!" there is alot of proof finally being surmassed to support all these charges. From "www.securityfocus.com/news/4359": The RIAA sent thousands of instant messages through Kazaa and Grokster stating "It appears that you are offering copyrighted music to others from your computer. Distributing or downloading copyrighted music...you are not anonymous and you can easily be identified." Needless to say, they sent it to random "anonymous" users. From "www.insidevandy.com/drupal/node/3753": 20 Vanderbilt students were being sent pre-litigation letters from the RIAA. This event marks the newest event in an escalating initiative by the RIAA to crack down on illegal file sharing on college campuses. The new campaign involves a new pre-litigation system that gives students an opportunity to resolve copyright complaints at a discounted rate and avoid any legal entanglements. Nice tactic, eh? I have also heard stories (unverified) that people were sent pre-litigation letters for just being on a p2p network regardless of what they were downloading. From "club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=87372": Most people in the file sharing community known by now about the corrupted mp3's that have spread around. It seems that most of the new/popular songs have been corrupted and seeded by the RIAA. You'll notice that the first 20 seconds or so of a song will sound fine, and then get garbled into a screechy sound.
