John Wayne would have been 100 on May 26, 2007 if he were still alive. | | | | I have enjoyed watching his movies for a LOOOOOOOONG TIME. I have seen, and have, movies with him in them and he was not overweight, and sang. In his earlier movies, which were black and white by the way, he was almost always THE GOOD GUY. I have two of his movies that I could watch anytime. The movies are...Angel and the Badman, and also The Green Berets. The reasons I have for liking both of these are that they show what a man can accomplish if he TRULY WANTS TO DO BETTER, and also show WHAT A DETERMINED MAN CAN DO WHEN HIS BACK IS AGAINST THE WALL. Does anyone else have any favorite movies of his, and why do you like them? Thank you for your response, in advance. | | | | | | | | | | Counterpoint DVD Video Starring Charlton Heston and Maximilian Schell. www.thevintagetheatre.com

| | I like most of his westerns. Movies like The Comancheros, Rio Lobo, Chism, and Hondo. I like the supporting casts as much as anything. I really liked the movie Hatari, because it showed some serious and humorous sides of John Wayne. Angel and the Badman was good too. I never liked the Green Berets much. But I do like several of his other war pictures like Bataan. | | | | | | | | | | Counterpoint DVD Video Starring Charlton Heston and Maximilian Schell. www.thevintagetheatre.com | add comment | | | |

| | John Wayne is an American icon, and I cannot imagine television and movies without him. I do not really have a favorite movie of his. I will say I have one that is definitely a least favorite, and that makes my blood boil. It is The Quiet Man, and in it he slaps the female lead around and it makes me mad every time. No wonder we have a culture of abuse now if even in the 50's our hero could hit a woman. My thoughts. I know that it will probably not be a popular opinion. Most of the time I enjoyed John Wayne, and his quiet sarcasm, but that one just got on my nerves. | | | | | | | finlander60 (1070)

| | I find that I must agree with you on that movie. My tendency is for my heroes to act in a way that shows their more positive side. | | | | | | | Strawberrynet.com Discount designer skincare & cosmetics. Up to 50% off. Free Shipping. www.strawberrynet.com | add comment | | | |

| | I was first introduced to John Wayne by my father, and my stepfather;) also enjoys his movies. However, it has been a long time since I have seen any and my memory is probably fuzzy on the ones I saw. However, I remember quite liking one he did when he was older called Rooster Cogburn. Playing opposite him was Katherine Hepburn. I think some reasons I liked it so much are that they both have a very strong screen presence, are American screen legends, and the characters they played were both fiesty. In many ways people have payed tribute to, or imitated, John Wayne and the acting he did, particularly in Westerns. One of my favorites is in the movies Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights starring Jackie Chan(my husband's favorite actor). In it Jackie Chan plays a Chinese warrior who ends up in the wild west. His name is Chong Wang(I'm not sure the spelling but pronounced like John Wayne), to which the westerner he meets says that is a horrible name for a cowboy;) Proof that John Wayne's impact lives on. | | | | | | | finlander60 (1070)

| | So, I was wondering if I was remembering that title (Rooster Cogburn) correctly, and was about to ask you if it was right. Then I thought of looking it up at my library's website and found that it's full title is "Rooster Cogburn: and the lady." And it does star John Wayne and Katherine Hepburn. Thankfully my memory isn't as bad as I thought :) Hmmm...I may have to check that out to watch ;) | | | | | | | Duke Blue Devils Store Duke University Merchandise. $4.99 3-Day Delivery on all Orders. www.CollegeFootballStore.com | add comment | | | |
