Get a load of this. I'm sure I'm a magnet for men that are born loosers. Here's just one reason why. A week ago we (My daughter & I) decieded we were going to have a yard sale. My daughter had a large blue pet carrier in excellent shape. She had bought it in about 1990 and paid 49.99 at that time, the price ticket was still on it. She told me she had put 20.00 on it so because mine was in the same good condition hers was I also asked 20.00. This fellow whom I recognized from being at the sale the day before had once again came the following day. I guess I should tell you we ran the sale Friday and Saturday. Anyway he was there Friday and now he's back Saturday. I'd guess him at about my age 55 to 60 and he was walking around and finally came fairly close to were my daughter and I were sitting. He made it pretty obvious he was listening to what we were talking about. He finally told us he needed a pet carrier after I had spoke to him first. I told him we had two and he let me know he was aware of that but he wasn't willing to pay 20.00. I asked him to make me an offer and he said 2.00. I told him I wouldn't let it go for 2.00 but I would sell him mine for 15.00. He snapped and told me he didn't have 15.00. Within a very short time three women came up the driveway and I couldn't believe it one woman walked right up to the pet carriers, grabed mine came and paid for it and never even asked me to come down. Well the look on this loosers face was priceless then he half turned and yelled at me, "Well I guess you won't sell it to me now for 15.00." He then turned and as he's walking away he was swearing the whole way out of the yard, then we heard a crash. He had smashed our yard sale sign down. My daughter became nervous he may come back that night and damage their van because no way in hell the van would fit in the garage. I settled that I took all I could in the truck brought it home to my place which is in a different town, my son in law brought the rest of the stuff a couple days later and all week I've been selling stuff, and yes I sold my daughtrs carrier for 20.00 as well. Yesterday another looser comes along he picks up about a dozen tapes and he says, "I want these tapes but I don't have any money so I'll be right back I have to go home for my money." I said, "Oh sure that's fine but just to let you know the tapes stay here till you come back." Well with that he threw the tapes across the table, said "Well in that case I don't need the dam things." then left. He may think I look stupid enough that I just fell off a turnip wagon, but tomorrow is my last day of my sale and I'm still waiting for him to come back. His money isn't good enough for me and I'm anxious to tell him so. On the upside the garage is still full of stuff and we've made over 1,000.00. To morrow is my last day as Sunday is my day of rest. Items left over will go to charity to help others in need. Has anyone got yard sale stories?

Wow how rude are people, I go to a lot of yard sales and I never try and beat people down, I feel that you are not wasting your day sitting there just to give your stuff away, so when I see something if I think it is fair I pay it, OMG how rude of these people....

myLot reputation of 99/100. Grandmaof2 (4590)   ranked 71 out of 26,909 in people  5 years ago

Yes rude for sure! But you know it is common and actually OK to barder a bit , that's part of a yard sale and I don't mind at all in fact if an item is let's say 6.00, I have said, "Would you take 5.00 for this?" and most times yes they will and I would too, but who would expect someone would go from 20.00 to 2.00?, and it certainly is not acceptable to do the actions done here by either one of these guys. Thanks so much for a fast response lilaclady.

yeah, it was crazy of him to expect that you will give that away for $2.00. it became crazier for him to be angry when someone else took it for the tag price. and the craziest thing was he even damaged your notice of the yard sale going on. if that happened to someone else, they could have called on the police so that man will get his lesson in life.

No stories about losers but we did have a couple of black guys come in for all our womens clothes! And to top it off when we thought we were done one of the men found the brand new bra's I'd put out there in the off chance... anyways their reason was that they were sending the clothes to Africa (although most of the clothing was winter) I also had 2 clothing items separately marked (a rabbit fur coat and my old grad dress) and when I said no he couldn't have them for $0.25 ea he asked my roommate! She then proceeded to say sorry they are hers and they have sentimental value... Just thought that was funny though

it is good that we do not have these nasty kind of yard sales clients. in our place, we will just simply go in, find some things we can like and, find those things which can be still useful for us which we can buy. we will try to haggle for the price just in case the one who is running the sale will be willing to bring the price down. we will say, 'what is your last price for this one?'. then if it is affordable, we will buy it. otherwise, we will just say as to how much money we can spare for it. it will be a simple yes or no from the seller. no more issues beyond that.

i am happy to know that you have earned some good amount out of the yard sale but, i am also saddened by those odd experiences that you have had. best of luck on the last day of the yard sale. i hope that no more undesirable customers are dropping by.

Thank You for your response and especially for your well wishes. I'm sure the day will go well. When you have these sales most times they go off without any problems but it is a chance you take and there are all kinds of people out there. I just thought it ironic I should encounter two loosers in such a short time. My daughter behaved better than this when she was a toddler.

Thanks for the marvelous story. I don't do yard sales and seldom visit them. You have done well by making $1,000. Too bad you had a few guys that wanted something for nothing. I hardly think you ever fell off the turnip wagon. You seem like a cool cookie to me because you handled both of those jerks well. I enjoyed the story.

I have never run into any troubles like this. Sounds like you may have needed to call the sherriff's dept. or police to come and make a drive by. You did the right thing not letting him take the tapes, he wasn't going to come back and pay for them, tell him to try going to walmart and see if they let him take the merchandise out then bring the money back. I once had a man buy a shower curtain from me at a yard sale, then brought it back and wanted a refund. I did give him the money back, but I thought, geez this is a yard sale, not wally world.

I'm sorry but you've just gave me good reason to laugh. I needed that after another day at my yard sale. Glad I don't have a shower curtain. lol lol

We had a yard sale when we were leaving Rhodesia. We combined it with two other friends and had a great time.

The garden was packed with africans and they were all well behaved and polite.

Although haggling for the price is part of the tradition there it was always done with humour and no offence given or taken on both sides.

It makes me smile in a rueful way when I hear people talking about how the white people were horrible in Africa. When you actually live together, work together and play together you learn to how to share a country, each doing what they do best for the good of the whole country. It makes me so sad to see the mess Zimbabwe is in now after 27 years of so-called 'freedom' and the hardships faced by my friends of all colours that are still there.

One of my friends and I did a yard sale. It was in the yard of a guy that owns a country store. He had a bunch of stuff to sell and asked my friend if she would hold the yard sale and sell his stuff and she could sell her stuff as well, just keep his money separate from hers. That was fine with her, and she asked me to help her.

Well there is this woman that drives up in a van and is really hateful. She sees some things she wants but does not want to give the price that is listed on the store owner's items. These prices were firm, because they were really cheap prices. There were really nice items like floor lamps for $10 and kids ride in toy jeeps and barbie cars that really drive with battery the price was good, very low. This woman is irate and wants to pay lots less than the ticket on the item. We could not let them go at that price.

My friend called the store owner to ask about reducing the price for the irate woman and he said no, he would keep them before he would go that low.

She had a little boy with her, maybe a grand son or something. He wanted the jeep so much. The woman was so irate she started cussing at the child to " get of the GD thing" the child started crying. She kept yelling and cussing at my friend. It was kind of scary to see this on a street corner and cars going by slow watching the scene.

Someone must have gone by the store, because the store owner showed up and she changed her tune and started talking nicer. She must have known him or something. Then she said she didn't mean to go off on my friend. And she bought an item and left.

That was really wierd.

I don't do yard sales I just shop at them. I have never in my life heard of such rude people nor have I ever ran across any like the ones in this story. This is so friggin idiotic of these people. I can't believe the. Thankfiully it wasn't my garage sale. The cops would have been called for damage to private property and the guy would be paying $1,000 bail not $15 for a pet carrier. Hahaha. I am glad that you made a pretty penny from the sale as well. Loan me $500? Hahaha!
