Do you support the idea of physician assisted death? Why or Why Not?

With the release of Dr. Jack Kevorkian from prison comes a new wave in the discussion of physician assissted death. What are your thoughts on this debate? When a patient is terminally ill should they be allowed to face their moratality with dignity, peace, grace and pain free by having a physician assist them to death? Does assissting a patient to death mean that a physician is upsetting the 'natural order of things?' There is a frequently-cited argument that "we euthanize pets, and so should do the same with humans." What are your thoughts on this subject?

I don't think euthanizing humans is a good idea, there's too many ethical and moral grey issues. I'm not comfortable with it as a policy.

In some cases, I do. I know for me, personally, I would rather be"put to sleep" by the hands of a doctor, than to live in a state of constant pain, that can't be helped by medication. What kind of life would that be? I can't imagine not being able to do for myself, and to wake up everyday(if you can even sleep at all)with such unbearable pain. I already have asthma, rhematoid arthritis(in both feet, hands, and knees), sinus trouble, multiple allergies, carpal tunnel, and acid reflux. Some days I wake up and wish I hadn't already, and I'm only 48 years old. I can't even imagine how I could cope with even worse pain. In fact, I am now more worried that I will live to be 80, than that I'll die before 60. It truly scares me that I will be in pain, and totally dependent on others, and I would hate to be that big of a burden on my family.

I believe that if a person wants to be put to sleep, why not? Why is it okay to choose that for animals, and not humans? Why must humans suffer horrible pain? I am all for it the idea of physician assisted deaths.

Well, I am not really sure who else will be more qualified for a job like that. As bad as it sounds, it is very fitting to me for a physician to do that.

Actually, I do support euthanasia.
If someone wants to die, let him leave with dignity. I do feel this is a basic right of humans.
It is never an easy decision though..

I think that no one should have the right to kill anyone. its sad to see a loved one go through pain but i would not take there life to be out of the sadness. we are Gods creation and only he should be the one to take our lives. and i know that when we get sick he is there to welcome us when we go to heaven. if we allow t in ohedeath ,then e are just as bad as those that kill for there own purpose.

Right off I would say I would be against PAD. However, if it was me in this position of being terminally ill, I would consider it. We kill in wars and disputes without a second thought as to whom we are killing. So I can't figure how this differs from that. Both might be argued as changing the natural course of life. So I would guess the the believers in the natural order of things would have to include wars. To me, they are NOT the natural order of things. Again, as with so many things supposedly unarguable, there are always exceptions and sidetracks. Either ALL killing disrupts the natural course of life, or none does.

i totally disaggree about the idea of a doctor will be authorize to end the life of a certain person because this person will die anyway and the only reason why he is alive is because of the medicines and tools that aids him from keeping alive. The main duty of a doctor is to cure a person from illness and it is not part of their profession to kill someone just because the person is so helpless and dying and could not protect his life.
