Have you ever been trapped in your home during a hurricane?

In our area, hurricanes are a fact of life. Several years back, we woke up a little late and found out that we'd missed the cut off point for hurricane evacuation.
We were lucky to have survived, because it turned out to be a very bad storm. Some people lost everything.
Fortunately, our baby was too young to know what was going on, so she didn't get too upset.
But, I vowed to myself, that I would never let it happen to us again. Next time I plan to be better prepared.
Have you ever been trapped in your home during a hurricane? How did you survive? What would you do differently next time?

We have never been trapped in the house. We were all prepared for the hurricane, but we were on the clean side of it.
Now that we are closer to the water we are already discussing this. We have decided when they start the voluntary evacuation, we will go then. My sister-in-law waited and it took them 14 hours to get 80 miles. They ran out of gas and couldn't use the AC. I don't want to be stuck in THAT situation ever!
