Have you ever sold something for money that you got for free?

I'm just curious if there are other people out there that have gotten something for free and then turn around and sell it for money later down the road? Or is this terribly wrong in your mind?

I've done that. I used to do album reviews and occasional interviews for a local music magazine. As a result, I got a lot of promotional CDs. In most cases, the promotional CDs were different from the actual release in some way, which makes them sought after by collectors. So the ones that I didn't want to keep, I sold on ebay. I always disclosed that they were promotional CDs and that I had received them free and I always started the auctions off at 75 cents. I didn't feel bad about it at all. I didn't want to keep the CD, so I gave someone else the chance to have the CD.

So how much did they end up finally selling for?

Most of them just sold for 75 cents. Some of them went as high as $5-7. There was one that was a digipak that ended up going for close to $20.

I've never done that personally and I don't think I know anyone that has. However, I get a lot of free samples in the mail, and I decided to use a free sample I recieved to my advantage. I'm a freelance writer and I get paid for articles that I submit. I decided to review the product I recieved in the mail. I wrote a review of the product and turned it in to get a few extra dollars.

I have done it. I won some tickets to a basketball game here in the area at work for a raffle, and I found out last minute that I couldn't go. I worked out a deal to sell them for face value ($55/ticket). I figured that I won them, they were my property, and that if I wanted to turn around and sell them since I wouldn't be able to go, it was no big deal.

I've done it. The only time I might have a problem with it is if it was a gift. I just can't see letting something sit and go to waste; I'd never say it was "brand new" but if it was something like clothing or books, resale shops are always looking for them.

Why would you have a problem if it were a gift? Technically if you got it for free wouldn't that be a gift at least nowadays? I know that back in the day people bartered but, if you received it without paying something for it, it is given to you for free, and that is a gift in my mind. Thanks for sharing!!

Well i sold something some people gave to me that i wasn't using because i needed the money. I don't think ti's wrong since i needed the money and the things i sold were just lying around at my place so i sold it off. =) At least it helped me instead of just being useless in cabinet or something.
