Ok, where do I start....my daughter is 16 and has been selected as a cheerleader 5 years...she is going on her sixth year as a cheerleader. First thing first. You need to get her into tumbling classes as soon as possible. And also dance classes as soon as possible. Gymnastics isn't necessary to be a cheerleader, plus they cost more. My daughter started classes when she was 2, yes, 2 years old. She needs tumbling skills for the squad, and the dance classes really help out her keeping rythmn in a cheer or dance, plus she is really good at remembering the cheers after remembering dances. My daughter takes jazz, ballet, tap, and tumbling and it only costs $35 a month. It's all at the same place in one evening, so time wise it's not to bad. Now cheerleading ...that's a different situation. There are practices, games, cheerleading camp, competition, making locker signs, extra practices for pep rally's...do you want to know more, let me know.

If your child shows an interest in it, that will be great. If not, find something else she would enjoy. I have such terrible joint pains now, from all my acrobatics and gymnastics when younger. I loved it, but my body is not a happy camper from it now.
Any type of classes she gets into will be a big commitment, so make sure it is something she really likes.

My daughter started gymnastics last summer. She was then just 6. I signed her up for a summer session that was only 3 weeks long so I could test it and see if she enjoyed it. She really liked it, so we signed her up for the school year. It is over now, and she said that she wants to continue next year. I think that it is good to get kids involved in an activity that they like:)
