do you turn off or put your cellphone in a silent mode while inside the church?

You are very right there, my friend sevnthjuly. The loud ringing of a cellphone inside the church while hearing mass is indeed a
distraction that the owner of said cellphone should be ashamed of. In my family, it is a requirement that either we put off our cellphones or leave it at home in attending mass to preclude unneccessarily distracting church goers due to its ringing in case of calls. And by the way,if the seventh of July happens to be your birthday then an advance happy birthday to you, my friend.

Yes! To me there are certain places you should not use it. Church would be the first. Movies next, resturants next. There is nothing that important that can't wait. I find it hard to believe that people would keep their phone on in church. I would love to see God answer that phone!

I prefer to switch off the cell in the temple as I don't want to be disturbed at all while I am trying to concentrate nor break others concentration. But occasionally when I am expecting an urgent call, I put it on silent mode and hold it in my hand.

When I used to go to church, I did not have a cellphone at all. But, now that I do I would turn it off if I do go to church someday.

Of course, i normally keep the mobile phone in vibration mode whenever I enter a public place like cinema halls, etc and including temples.

i think the church should come up with the 11th 'commandment' for all churchgoers to 'turn off their mobiles while they are inside the church.' let's be reminded that we have to pay respect to the house of God. it's supposed to be a solemn place where everybody focuses their minds and hearts in praying and worshiping the Lord. i don't understand why some bother themselves turning on their mobiles and do texting and even calling when they are there already sitting in front of the altar. only God knows what going on their minds.

you got it there, when i go to church i usually switch off my phone not even put it on vibration. or sometime i leave it at home when going to church.
In fact, not everyone has the ethic of respect for God in the church. sometimes i see people receiving calls in the church while the semon is going on. i don't know if they have thought of disrupting others'attention. some will even allow the phone to ring for sometime before they run out to receive that call.
i usually feel so embarrassed as if i'm the one.

Hi,
Cell phone are restricted in certain places and certain occasions. As those sound of indication makes the concentrations and also sometimes it becomes a distrubance to others whose concentration is affected. So to get a peace of mind and the upheld soical dignity and value we have to obey certain rules and also certain limitaions for the overall benefit of society. Hence I hope to keep mobile in silent or switched off were it is limited.
