Making yourself feel better when you have an upset stomach

What do you do when you have an upset stomach? Do you head straight for the Pepto-Bismal or some other over the counter remedy? Are there foods or drinks that help you? Are there foods or drinks that you avoid? I think that I am gaining more and more intolerance towards lactose, which means that milk products seem to be giving me an upset stomach. It makes eating difficult, because I am so used to being able to use milk or cheese in my meals!

Me a take a half glass of water and mix in a half teaspoon of baking soda, then drink. Next, wait for that great big old burp, then my stomach is fine again.

That seems remarkably easy! I guess it's a lot like Alka-Seltzer, only without all the extra crap they add in that I can't have!

That's what it is, and you are right it doesn't have that all those "extras" added to it. I used this during both my pregnancies. I had constant stomach problems with both girls, especially after eating.

I've always been a fan of Vernor's Ginger Ale when my tummy is upset....other ginger ale works some, but Vernor's is the best. Tall Tom is apparently lactose intolerant too and Brenna said that one of the things they have found that works for him is switching to goat cheese and soy milk. Personally, Pepto just makes me more nauseous, so I'd go with ginger ale or 7-up.

Hmmm... I've tried soy milk, and it's pretty gross, but it works okay for cereal or pretty much as long as you aren't drinking it straight. Goat cheese, though, I'll have to look into. And I somehow knew that ginger ale was a good idea, but I bought Sprite instead, cuz it comes in 20 oz. bottles. I'll have to remember to get ginger ale next time. :)

oh man..i couldn't live without cheese..i put it on everything. just plain upset,i'll get some maalox type stuff, that helps although if it's mild, just plain sugar water will help sometimes,or even ginger ale. if it's vomit type upset,i get this stuff called emetrol (over the counter)-it does the trick.

A bottle of milk can probably help you.Cos milk can protect the gastric mucosa of body.So I think it is good to take a bottle of milk with some oatmeal as breadfast and take another bottle of milk before going to bed.

Usually I first try to drink some soda, preferably 7up or sprite if I have some in the house. Usually it will help a little, but sometimes just plain old water seems to do the trick for me. I've never been one to really use over the counter remedies for stomach aches, no particular reason, just haven't turned to them for that.
