After our annual physical examination last year I learned that:
1. I have Splenomegaly: my spleen was enlarged.
2. My spleen have multiple cysts within.
I undergo ultra sound and ctscan to be able to understand all these. I see a surgeon, a hematologist, an internist and an oncologist to consult about my health condition.
I also let my hematologist do the biopsy of my bone marrow. Then she told me she can't treat me since she can see cancer cells multiplying in my body.
I learned from the doctors and specialist that cysts when not affecting my health can stay inside my body without harming. I can see my body is healthy with all the test I have gone thru.
I am really not satisfied with the kind of medical facilities and experts present in our country. It is also very expensive for me to go on some more test or surgery since I can't afford. I am a regular employee who earns enough for me and to support my family too.
Do you think I need to remove my spleen? Or should I go abroad for treatment? Please give your advise. Thank you.

Do you think that we can live on without our spleen? I have no idea about this. But I think as this is part of our body, maybe it is better to still have it. Why not take some effective medicine to get it cured? There is no need to go abroad for the treatment. It is surely more expensive as you have to pay the travelling fee and in a new country, you are so unfamiliar with it causing you so much unnecessary trouble. My suggestion is immature. You will think about it yourself.

Yes we can still survive without our spleen according to my online research. I think it is better to have all the body faculties specially that I don't feel any pain even if I have several cysts on it. You are right, it is not necessary to go abroad. I don't have the finances to do so. I am just desperate to live and have a good life. I just can't trust our medical facilities here in the Philippines. I do not think your suggestions are immature. I think they are brilliant. Thank you for everything my frined. God bless!

Thanks for your response, beauty. Cheer up. Since it won't influence our life without the spleen, there is no need to let down. But have you ever thought of the reason why experienced doctors or experts choose to leave abroad without working at home? The answer is clear: for gaining more. I think it is time for the government to raise the salary of the whole civilians who work whatever line of business they do to prevent talents from leaving the country. Have you ever tried to give some suggestions to your government for that? Maybe if it is acceptable, they will take it into consideration. Be happy and be healthy, my friend.

Sounds like you have had all the usual tests of your spleen. Can you get these reports sent to another doctor. You might want to get a second opinion. Having your spleen removed would not be a great problem as the human body can do well without it. It may be as simple as keeping watch on it every 6 months or so. I would really consider a second opinion of what to do.

There were several researches I did over the internet and it says a man can live without the spleen. I did try to have several opinions from specialists. I will be seeing 2 surgeons after our PE this week. Thanks for helping me with my health problem. God bless!

If your spleen has to be taken out, you may have an increased risk of severe infection. The degree of risk depends on your age and if you have other diseases. Although your risk of infection is highest in the first two years after splenectomy, it stays high for the rest of your life. With no spleen, the risk of a severe infection is about the same as dying in a home accident.
Doctors, dentists and other health care workers should always be told if you have no spleen. You should also wear a MedicAlert bracelet or necklace from the MedicAlert emergency medical information service. You can get one by contacting MedicAlert Foundation International, 2323 Colorado Ave., Turlock, CA 95382. Their toll-free number is 1-800-432-5378. Their Web site address is http://www.medicalert.org.
This seems to be too much for something that might be not affecting my health at this time.

It sounds like you should go abroad for treatment but first research your condition as much as you can on the internet to find out what can be done abroad. There are some Medical sites that let you ask questions of a physician if I'm not mistaken. Try to find a specialist in this field that is well recommended and see if they will consult by phone with your doctors.

Your recommendations are noted my friend and appreciated as well. I think I will be doing it if there's a need for any operations later. I am praying that I won't be doing it anymore. Thank you so much for helping me, GOD bless!

I live here in the US and a good friend of mine growing up had to have her spleen removed, and she did fine and lives her life to the fullest now. She has a husband and a baby and she is OK. I know all you can do is basically what you can afford. I have a cyst in my head, but it doesn't contain cancer. I don't know what I would do if i were you, but I wish you the best of luck and a lot of blessings.

According to my research over the internet a man can live without a spleen. Thanks for the confirmation about this. When I went thru biopsy I was really scared to know cancer symptoms in from my bone marrow point of view. I am happy that it is ok. I do hope that you will be able to get rid of the cyst you have in your head. God bless!

This is a decision that needs to be made by you and your family. You must think off all the pros and cons to this situation. The other thing is you want to get another opinion. I do not know if I would let anyone just take out my spleen without getting other opinions. I wish you lots of luck with your condition and I truely hope that you will be alright. If you are not happy with your doctors I would recommend that you search out other doctors that you trust to give you a full exam again.

My family know all about this. I know it is harder for me to let them know and I can sense that they are sad about it. I am sad but I tried to know the results of the test. I am still confident that I am healthy with God's grace.

Hi beauty_oh, I am so sorry to hear of your health problems. I do think that it is neccessary that you do get this taken care of as soon as possiable.I am so glad that there are no cancer cells growng in your body, but I am afraid if this is not taken care of soon, you may indeed get cancer, so pless do something about it soon, my friend..I can understand what you are saying about the expense and all, but your live is worth it all, no matter how much it costs. You can live without your spleen. If you went abroad where would you go?Could you get medical care free there? We have a Med Center close to where I live in Arkansas in the United States it is suposed to be one of the best in the world It is caled UAMS .They do great work.

I have nowhere to go abroad, specially that I am financially now capable of. I am just desperate to seek medical care abroad. I am praying that my body can fight cancer cells from multiplying. What I know is that canceer cells are always present in our body. Medical doctors and tests can only detect cancer cells when they multiply like millions in our body. Thanks for sharing the information about UAMS. I really appreciate your response my friend. God bless!
