Board Games |
|
Thinking back on my love for board games, I was prompted to ask if any of you here on MyLot grew up playing them. During the seventies my family favorites were the game of Life and Payday. My children and I got much enjoyment from these games. When video games came out it was sad to see the decline of people playing board games. I think I would still like to play them today if I had someone to play them with.

worldwise1 (6084) | 3 years ago | Of course, how could I ever forget Clue, shaun? It was my very first favorite board game. I spent countless hours playing it.

2. shemah (478) | 3 years ago | i have really sentimental feelings for scrabble and monopoly because it was a family thing. The last time we had a family game night was when we played monopoly during my sons birthday 2 months ago. That was fun!:D

3. pyewacket (11552) | 3 years ago | Aww--I'll play some games with you--LOL. I used to play Life, Monopoly, --do you remember Operation? I think kids today miss out on being able to play such games cause these used to make one thing a bit...not much thinking involved really with video games

| |
|
|
worldwise1 (6084) | 3 years ago | You're right, pyewacket. There was a lot of communication going on when we played the board games. Many of the younger generation will never get to experience this.

4. wiccania (2780) | 3 years ago | I love boardgames. When I was a kid we would get dinner from somewhere (pizza, white castle, mcdonalds, etc) and play boardgames. My favorites back then were Life and Mousetrap. Now I love trivia games and word games the most. I used to have a pretty big collection, it's been reduced to about 7 but they're all games I love, especially Disney Trivia and Huggermugger.

5. acmepride (759) | 3 years ago | As a family, we truly enjoyed playing scrabble together perhaps because apart from really being challengingly brain-stimulating, it's a very excitingly fun board game, which helpfully made us bond.
I also vividly remember having tons of absolute fun happily playing monopoly with my siblings and cousins.
If only I could play such board games as often as before, then I would surely have another excellent way of relaxing and having a blast.
| |
| |
|
|
worldwise1 (6084) | 3 years ago | What you say is true, acmepride. Although I have adapted to video games, I still find that they can be very stressful. There was not much stress involved in sitting down to enjoy your favorite board game.

6. mcjeannie (294) | 3 years ago | I definitely love scrabble. Even this time my hubby play it together...Sometimes I teased him saying whoever loose in the game will slowly undress his/her clothes slowly(like one by one) from head to toe LOL!
In my heydays of childhood, my cousins and I usually play Monopoly, then came Demopoly.I also love chess, it was mostly men Who were my opponent in this game! There is also this game ofthe generals, where you try to overpower your opponent with a pawnlike character and the board is like to that chess that when it's your turn to move, you better make sure it wasn't a "GENERAL" characteer you are rivaling with otherwise your pawn character will be captured if it' only a colonel. The aim is to capture all the men of your opponent, from the lowest rank of captain to Generals. There was so much personalized interaction among family members in the old days.It make life so simple and the joy it gives to every family member made each other aware of their relatives and family members likes and dislikes, strength and weaknesses as a person.
Nowadays, the online gaming is so popular. It makes even little children and asult resort to hacking of characters and seldom communicate pwersonally to siblings and friends. The play station is a also another form...I do miss the board games and scrabble is the one thing a board game I can't get rid as its my form of relaxation and enjoyment.Aside from making my vocabulary enhanced.

7. crazynurse (5708) | 3 years ago | When I was young, I enjoyed LIFE and Monopoly and countless others. In the 80s, I was part of the Trivial Persuit kick! Hubby and I made sure that our chilren had many board games growing up. I really enjoyed those endless hours playing games with our children! As adults, we still have friends over and play board games. Our favorite at present is Balderdash! Board games rule!
| |
| |
|
|
worldwise1 (6084) | 3 years ago | Yeah, crazynurse. Maybe if a law were passed that all families be required to have at least one night a week of playing board games together it would solve many of today's problems.
| |
|
|
crazynurse (5708) | 3 years ago | I seriously believe it would help! If parents sit and play games with their children they learn so much about the child. Family bonding occurs, you learn from each other..the list of positives goes on and on! I feel that we would have tighter families, which can only make for a 'tighter' society!

9. ORyansBelt2012 (2113) | 3 years ago | My favorite game was Sorry. I've got a Monopoly board game but I can seldom get anyoane to play it with me. I'm super competitive and I always win. Plus, I live alone, so there's not much to playing Monopoly by yourself. When my kids were little we'd play Chutes and Ladders and Candyland. Those were two board games leftover from when I was a kid. Now it's X Box and 3D video games, which I can't play because the one time I tried it, doing one of those racing games, I got car sick/ motion sick and had to quit.
| |
| |
|
|
worldwise1 (6084) | 3 years ago | I was also very competetive, ORyans. I also agree that it's not much fun playing a board game alone. My grandkids got me started playing the video games, but it was not nearly as much fun.

10. castleghost (1113) | 3 years ago | As a child I didn't care to much for boardgames. Partly because the only people I had to play with was my parents. These days my children and I play the game Sorry together a lot. We also like to play the game Brick Builder, which is a board game that you play using legos. You roll dice to see how many spaces you can move. On each space it tells you how many "bricks" you can pick up and what color if any. You try to get the "bricks" you need to put together your creation first.
