I am an amateur artist. I have several paintings that I would like to frame. I would like to put mats around them, but I don't know how to do that. These paintings are on canvas covered stiff cardboard, not on stretched canvas. Can someone help me?

I found a web site that you might be interested in checking out. It may help with your matting. http://www.ehow.com/how_11954_cut-picture-frame.html

Thank you very much for mentioning this website as I have been looking to find out ways to properly frame my artwork as well. I have been having a difficult time with getting my artwork to fit properly in the matting that are already cut and sold in the stores.

I don't know that you have to mat oils to frame them. You don't have to use glass in the frame, like you do with media that use paper. Mats are more expensive than frames. I work in pastels, which have to be double-matted and framed with glass - quite expensive.
