I was travelling with six teenagers the first time I went to Seattle.

Actually it was the first time I ever flew. We went for three days to a campground north of Seattle, for Bible quiz competition, then spent two days in Seattle, sight seeing. I remember going up in the Space Needle. I was accompanied by a young man who was claustrophobic, and one who was afraid of heights. It was interesting to watch the claustrophobic as we went up, up, up, in the elevator, and the one who was scared of heights on the observation deck. The man afraid of enclosed spaces flew to England next, for a missions trip--I would go crazy on that long a flight, and the one afraid of heights went to flying school and did his solo that summer. I found both situations very interesting and contradictory. Have you visited Seattle, what do you remember? Do you know people who conquer great fears to achieve their life goals? Bear in mind these people were between fourteen and seventeen, all of them. I was so impressed.

I just happened to find this discussion. I currently live in Seattle so it caught my eye. I think that's great what those two young men are doing now! I always thought it would be really cool to be able to smuggle Bibles into a country that doesn't allow them! Those are HUGE fears to conquer, but it seems like most people who are "on fire for God" are willing to do anything. :)

I knew that someone else would have to have something to say about Seattle, and conquering fears. I also loved our visit there, and it came at a time to refresh me, because I had just lost my husband of twenty three years. I loved it when I had time to hang out with kids. LOL Thanks for the response

That is so interesting. Do you know what these young men are doing now? That would be interesting to find out. I, personally, have some fears that I have never tried to conquer. I get shaky just getting up high enough to get my feet off the ground. I don't know why, it just happens. I also do not eat pasta. I can't even stand the smell of it cooking, it just turns my stomach and makes me feel like puking. I know why I have that reaction, but that's another story.

The young man who went to England is now a business educator in a foreign country where evangelism is frowned upon, when he was eighteen he made a trip to another country with very bulky clothes, to smuggle Bibles. He has a family now, and is more conservative, but still provides a Christian witness while going about his work. For his safety we do not say where he is, or who. The young man with the pilot license is a youth minister in Texas. At some point he may join a flying missionary group. I have conquered some fears, but have many more to go.

One of the fears that I used to have concerned walking over rickety bridges. I would rather ride over in a car than walk by, but I have overcome that fear and will actually fish off of one for hours at a time.
