I am posting this for the Girl Scouts and Girl Scout Leaders in the MyLot community. It was given to me by the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) in our local town. This posting is from the back side. To see the front side, you need to read and print the discussion on flag retirement. You can print it out and use it when you retire flags or at other flag folding ceremonies.
--------------------------
Step 1. Fold the flag lengthwise. Bring the striped half up over the blue field. (you will not be able to see the blue field)
Step 2. Fold lengthwise again. Bringing the botton edge up to meet the top edge. This will place the upper part of the blue field (Union) on top.
Step 3. Fold lower right-hand corner to the upper edge to form a triangle.
Step 4. Now fold the triangle toward the blue field. The outer point is turned inward on the upper edge of teh flag to form the second triangle.
Step 5. Continue to fold the fold in triangles until the entire length of the flag is folded.
Note: If you have followed the above steps correctly, only the blue field should be visible. No red shows. The flag will be in the triangular shape of a cocked hat symbolizing the hats worn by the soldiers of the Revolutionary War.
-------------------------------
This is from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Citizesship Education Department. You are welcome to print it. I hope you will use this information to teach your Girl Scouts how to handle flags with respect and good manners.
If I have missed anything, please let me know. If you need more information, let me know and I will ask the VFW for you.

Again, it looks fine to me. I haven't folded on emyself in quite some time either, but your instructions seem to be right on the money. Thank you for providing this information to everyone out there. If only one person learns from it, it is definitely worth it.

I always wondered why it had to be folded in a triangle. My dad's a vet but couldn't remember why (he's going a little senile).thanks for the info

Just one, that my girl as a safety patrol at school had to learn. Never let the Flag touch the ground. It was the first thing they made sure each child understood. Never drag it and/or drop it.
