How long can you last without sleeping?

You do not want to be around me without sleep, I cannot even last one day. I would have to be pretty desperate, and it would have to be a really excellent prize. I can be up about eighteen hours, and then I am done for. I fall asleep sitting still, and then startle myself awake. It is miserable. I am too old to do much more than that. What was the prize you were trying to win?

I don't think i can last any longer then one day without sleeping.Sleeping is the the most important part of my life.I can't stay awake without sleeping the night before.I would probably have serious headaches and feeling exhausted. I think you are awesome !! You can last for two night without sleeping...It's such a very big deal for me though..:)Although you did not win the competition but you did a very good job !

You should be aware that sleep deprivation taken to the extreme, which is what you are speaking of, can lead to permanent brain damage even if it doesn't kill you. If I were you, I would not attempt such an experiment without some sort of medical supervision...to do so is beyond recklessness, it is also the height of uninformed and misguided bravado. If you are going to attempt it as an experiment then do it properly and take the necessary precautions any sane risk taker would take.

The longest I ever went was 74 hours, a shade over three days. I suffer from extreme insomnia so I have trouble sleeping to start with. This wasn't past of a contest or to win something, I was stressed out and couldn't fall asleep if my like depended on it. People who have insomnia complain about it but I have grown to live with it and deal with it; I get a lot done at night when everyone is sleeping and as long as I can take a quick nap in the afternoon, I am usually set for the whole day.

Hello 1qazxsw2, Congratulations to you! At least you managed to stay wide awake for two consecutive days. Ha Ha Ha! Never mind about losing the grand prize! I used to stay up before and the longest I can go is 48 hours. After that, I will feel so sleepy, dizzy, tired and need to sleep at least for a few hours to recover and become a normal person back :)

I've never tried that so I don't really know how long I would last. I guess it just depends what exactly I'm doing at the time. If it's fun, I could probably stay up a couple of days.

My longest hours is 40 hours when I have not slept once. Sleeping is my weakness so I cannot keep myself awakened for long time say 2-3 days. Though my sleeping ends up with 6-7 hours daily. Monday to sunday; I follow one routine for whole week. In india I have seen children taking part in competition for world record and have not slept for long time say 4-5 days also.
