Comics... Old And New... Do You Still Read Them? |
|
I don't read comics any more, although I used to read the Dandy and Beano regularly. My Dad used to order them for us, and we'd eagerly await their delivery each week with the Daily Newspaper. I loved to read the antics of Dennis the Menace and Minnie the Minx. They were my two favourites, but I also liked Desperate Dan and his Cow Pie. lol.
As I grew, I stopped reading them, but I used to buy them for my boys and would occasionally take a peek. However, I went on to the Peanuts comic books, with Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Peppermint Patty, Pigpen, Marcie, Schroeder, Sally, Franklin, Rerun,Woodstock and last but not least, the famous Snoopy! Charles M. Schulz certainly captivated a child's life in these books and I found them very amusing.
Do you still read comics of any kind, or do you have some fond memories of comics to share? I think we all read them at some time in our lives and perhaps, still do.

Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | Yes, Charles Schultz is a great cartoonist, the way he depicts those kids. I like Woodstock too but I think the most endearing character for me, is probably Linus, with his blanket he drags around. lol.
I believe Charlie Brown's Mum and Dad are in some of the cartoons, from what I remember, but I won't swear by that.
Brightest Blessings.

3. lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | Nah, I was never a comic reader. So, I never did read then, and I still don't read now.
I prefer solid books.:P

Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | Awwwwwwwww, you don't know what you're missing, Wiz!
Thank you for your input. I like books as well of course, but occasionally, I find the need for a chuckle and the Peanuts books are light, amusing reading. They're not all in comic strips, some are little stories, but still enjoyable.
Brightest Blessings.

Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | Wow, yes, they would have been more than worth a few rides around the block on your bike now, VMKS.
Annuals fetch quite a bit from those times, too. Rupert, especially and all the old, popular ones, like Dandy and Beano. Yes, the kids of today do miss out on a lot of pleasure with their electronic games and computers but that's progress, I guess. They don't know any different.
Brightest Blessings.

Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | They're not to everybody's liking, Lakota. Books are just as good, but I did enjoy the Peanuts books. I used to take them on the bus and train when I wasn't going far, because they could be read quickly.

Lakota12 (16748) | 3 years ago | How cute I dont think they had them when I grew up Peanuts and that came later. I used to listen to the radio and listen to green hornet, lone ranger and something else on Satudays. Heck I am 67 thats along time and I have seen alot of changes to the world and I always wonder what my grand ma woulld have thought if she had lived

Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | I daresay your grandma wouldn't have had time for thought... she'd have had her nose stuck in a comic! ha ha

Lakota12 (16748) | 3 years ago | No I really dont think so she took care of youth group in the church and then she also wrote for the small town newspaper . She died back in the 50s and I just wonder what she would think of all the technologies that has came out since then
| |
|
|
Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | Yes, I wonder. Things progress so much in just a few years, but they're oh so different to the 60s and 70s even.

Lakota12 (16748) | 3 years ago | yes they sure are;-)

9. oneandonemakesix (24038) | 3 years ago | I don't know if I should bge embarrassed to admit it or not.
Whenever I do buy a paper, its rule that no-one can have the comics until I have read them... And woe to the person that reads them before I get to them.
And I won't tolerate them reading over my shoulder while I'm reading them either.
I enjoy hte older comics, peanuts, blodie, hi and lois etc....Marmaduke is one of my all time favorites.
Mooch

Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | Noooooooo, no need to feel embarrassed at all. We all still have the kid in us, and besides, we need a bit of a laugh from time to time. Garfield is quite funny too, although I'm not so sure he's modern, and when talking about newspapers, I used to always look for the Andy Capp and Flo cartoons. lol.
Thank you for your input and Brightest Blessings.
